Barely forty eight hours after the defection of former Governor Godswill Akpabio from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), shocking revelations have emerged on attempts by the ruling Party to woo other political bigwigs in the State, to defect with the Ex Governor.
The latest is that mouthwatering sums and juicy political promises were allegedly dished out by the APC, in a ploy to take over the oil rich State.
Speaking during a Solidarity Rally for Governor Udom Emmanuel and Senator Bassey Albert in Uyo, Thursday, Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly revealed that he was offered the sum of Two Billion Naira by the Presidency to defect from the PDP to the APC.
Although he rejected the said sum, Luke further revealed he was also promised the Deputy Governorship slot in 2019, but however said he will quit politics, rather than defect to the APC.
"They said the President had sent words for me to become the Deputy Governor. They offered me Two Billion Naira, but I said NO. If you like, offer me Ten Billion, mine is NO", he said.
He said the defection of Senator Akpabio and others to the APC was borne out of personal interest, noting it was aimed at grabbing and sharing power.
"They have no plans for us and no plans for the future of our State. It was all about them! It was only about power grabbing and power sharing, but by God's amazing grace, we will overcome them", Luke noted.
On the second term bid of Governor Udom Emmanuel, the Speaker said the people will resist 'federal might', to ensure the State Chief Executive is returned for a second term in office.
"Tell Abuja that Akwa Ibom people are ready to resist them, tell them we are ready to vote who we want, tell them we are defending our course. We will deliver our Governor for another term in 2019", he maintained.
