By Osondu Ahirika

GOV UDOM EMMANUEL

The Clan Head of ikpanya in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Chief Peter Umoh, has thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State for the award of the State government contract for the construction of the 11 kilometre Obotme-Ukpakon-Nturi-Okpoto-lwere-lkpanya road linking lni and lbiono local government areas, with a plea that, the Governor should ensure the road project does not suffer the infamous fate of Use Ikot Amama road, also in Ibiono Ibom.

Chief Umoh made the submission when  Governor Emmanuel performed the flagging off ceremony of the road which has a 25 metres Span bridge and a spur projected to be completed in 12months.
According to the Royal father, Use Ikot Amama road which became world famous under former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as one of the major roads constructed by his administration was abandoned and never completed till date despite the hype, while the community continues to suffer nearly a decade after the road was awarded for construction.

He commended Governor Emmanuel for coming to the rescue of forgotten villages and communities, stressing that, this was the first time ever, the six villages benefitting from the road in both local governments will be seeing a tarred road in their area, thanking God Almighty that, this is happening in his life time at ripe old age. He pledged the total support and prayers of the people for Governor and to succeed in his second term bid.

Addressing the people of lni and lions, who came out enmasse to welcome him, Governor, Emmanuel said, he was touched by the plight of the people given that, for decades, there was no access road in the area which has cut them off from other communities and crippled their economic activities.

Represented by the Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim lnyangeyen, the governor stressed that, his administration is determined to open up communities  that were initially forgotten to give them a sense of belonging.

Mr Emmanuel reassured the people of lni that, by December the Obotme -Arochukwu road with bridges will be completed to Arochukwu, attributing the delay on the road to daily heavy rain pour during the rainy season.

The governor thanked the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East(Uyo) Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Bassey Albert for being a true representative of his people, by attracting government attention to the area.

Mr Emmanuel called on the people to seek the path of peace in resolving any issue that may arise in the cause of the job, assuring that, prompt attention will be given to any of their complaints.

He appealed to the youths not to vandalize any equipment used for the road construction, but to protect and cooperate with the contractor to complete the work on schedule, noting that, any act of Vandalism will delay the road construction.

Senator Bassey Albert in his remarks said, one thing that the governor has done that is outstanding and dear to his heart is the construction of the Ukpakon- lkpanya road which has been in a deplorable state for several decades.

He described the people of lni and lbiono as predominantly farmers whose farm produce would have been exported to other places to boost their local economy, but due to absence of access roads, their daily businesses remained stagnant, positing that, Governor Emmanuel has changed the story of the people forever. Senator Albert pledged the people's Unflinchingly support and loyalty to the Udom-led administration.
