The Commissioner for Work, Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-eyen has said that no amount of threats and antics of the opposition party in the state would stop governor Emmanuel from completing his second tenure in office in 2023.
He added that the "Warsaw war" chant of the All Progressive Congress will not deter the governor from engendering his industrialisation drive in the state.
The Commissioner who stated this over the weekend while interacting with few journalists in his office maintained that the infrastructural development by the present governor has already endeared the people to the governor, stressing that no amount of gang up would unseat the governor.
Obviously referring to Senator Akpabio who left the PDP, Inyang-eyen said, "yes the great teacher has left, but another great teacher has emerged. We are doing fine without the great teacher, nothing takes God unawares. God used him to bring Udom and he had finished his work and moved on to do other things, so God has brought other great teachers.
“Udom is staying on the seat till May 2023 and no Warsaw war" will stop him, mark my words!
“He must win to complete his projects as well as deliver on his industrialization master plan for Akwa Ibom state." He said
The Commissioner stressed that government was carrying out massive and extensive emergency road projects across the state especially in areas which were not attended to by previous administrations.
“My mandate as a Commissioner of works, in terms of road is to go round the state and ensure that some local governments and communities which did not benefit from road infrastructure in the two previous administrations from 1999 till today should feel the presence of government and have a sense of belonging.
“Roads in Obot Akara local government area, where a former deputy governor, Obong Chris Ekpenyong hails from, were not done. The former deputy governor sent an S.O.S to us and we went immediately to intervene.
“Again, Uruan local government was abandoned by previous governments in terms of road construction. As I speak we have done no fewer than 4 roads in the council area", Inyang-eyen said.
“About 68 roads have been done within Uyo metropolis through direct labour, and this has impacted positively on the economic life of Uyo residents.
“Udom led administration is concerned about projects that would impact directly on the lives of people and not Signature project which can not be completed.”
He also lamented that the federal government was yet to release the N142 billion owed the state on the construction of federal roads, noting that about N74 billion has been approved by President Buhari but was hanging somewhere.
He further said that the state government would have used the FG refunds to finance some key projects as well as fix erosion and flood challenges confronting some communities in the state.
The commissioner ascribed the flooding challenge in Uyo to the inability of previous governments to interconnect drains to the main drainage to allow free flow of water in the state.
