Gov Emmanuel hails Churches in the state for their partnership with Government ...says monthly youth prayer conference yielding positive results

By Mfonobong Ukpong

Governor Udom Emmanuel has called on churches in the state to continue to pray for the continuous peace and progress of the state. He made the call on Sunday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Benett Bassey Street in Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, during the October edition of the Akwa Ibom Youth Prayer Conference organized by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters, Comrade Iwa Udofa

Attributing the successes recorded by his administration in the past three and a half years to God, the Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Prince Ukpong Akpabio, thanked the church in Akwa Ibom for the intercessory prayers it has been offering for peace and progress of the state, saying his government has benefitted immensely from these prayers. The Governor commended the St. Anthony Catholic Church and other churches in the state that have played host to the monthly prayer conference organized by the youths of the state, saying he was pleased with the partnership enjoyed between the church and his government, and pointed out that the monthly youth prayer conference which commenced in August, 2015 has resulted in the state being adjudged as the most peaceful state in the country. The Governor noted that this was so because, the prayers helped to shape the minds of Akwa Ibom youths in the right direction.

"The success of my administration is as a result of your prayers. Let me extend my sincere gratitude to this church and other churches that have been praying for the state and the success of my administration. I also urge you to continue to pray that God should not allow agents of evil to take over the state. Continue to pray for the continuous peace and unity of the state.
Let me appreciate Comrade Iwua Udofia for initiating and sustaining the prayer summit. Your initiative has helped to shape the minds of Akwa Ibom youths".

Governor Emmanuel expressed delight at the reduction in crime rate in the state, as witnessed recently when youths in Ukanafun, Etim-Ekpo and environs publicly surrendered arms and denounced cultism, kidnapping and other crimes. He assured that his administration remains irrevocably committed to securing a bright future for youths of the state.

"My administration will continue to secure the future of our youths. I want to advise the youths against involvement in criminal activities. Let me also remind that the average lifespan of a criminal is less than one year. Our youths should not allow themselves to be used for criminality".

Earlier in a welcome remarks, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters, Comrade Aniefiok Iwa Udofia appreciated God for the grace to sustain the prayer conference from its maiden edition in August 2015 to its 39th edition in October, 2018. He commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for the encouragement and support he has given him which has resulted in the sustenance of the monthly youth prayer summit in the state.
Testifying of the benefits of the prayer conference, the Governor's aide said  Akwa Ibom has now been recognized as the safest state in Nigeria, and attributed it to the fact that a Governor with the fear of God was on the throne.

" The prayer summit was an instruction from His Excellency, the Governor, and we have been doing it observing it for the 39th time now. This is because when a righteous man is on the throne, the people will rejoice"

The Priest in charge of the church, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ating said the church has a duty to always pray for the government and appreciated God for the peace currently enjoyed in the state.

"We pray for government every time we assemble for prayers. I want to appreciate God for the peace we are enjoying in Akwa Ibom State. I pray to God that the peace we are enjoying today be sustained".
