PRESS RELEASE: AKWA IBOMITES WILL NOT SUCCUMB TO ANY INTIMIDATION, OPPRESSION AND POLITICAL THREATS - CNPP

TUESDAY 20th. NOVEMBER, 2018

On Monday, 19th of November 2018, an alarming information about flagrant breach of constitutional provisions which threanend the peace and unity of Akwa Ibom people occupied the Internet space.

The once, most  peaceful Akwa Ibom state was almost taken over by some acclaim political war lords whose political interests and  desires are vested  purely on nepotism and selfishness.

The Machiavellian  attempt to invade and raze down the State assembly by some hoodlums and miscreants loyal to the five sacked members of the state assembly  whose seats were declared vacant following a court order  have created unusual tension across the state thereby threatening the existing peace and unity of our dear state.

Let me submit here that it is  plausible to note that Akwa Ibom State does not belong to any single individual or group of persons and, the unity and peace of our dear State should be considered a collective responsibilities rather than being drag back to uncivilized state where some ganged greedy opposing  politicians instead of setting an acceptable leadership standard resolve at creating factions against the suppose progress of our dear state.

Having examined and considering the aftermath political, economic and  social implications of these barbaric act at the State assembly;  I, on behalf of the executives of Conference of Nigeria political Parties (CNPP), Akwa Ibom state chapter, irrevocably condemn in its totality the attempt by politicians to wilfully cause disharmony, hatred and division in the state aimed at disrupting the 2019 general elections.

In as much as we sympathize with victims of the deadly invasion of the state legislature and politically ochestrated attack on innocent citizens and Hon. members of the state legislature; we call on the security angencies to remain proffesionally undeterred and committed in their efforts to partner the state government in the fight against crime and to ensure peaceful coexistence without fear of favour or preference to any political party whatsoever.

We commend also the courageous stand point and prompt intervention of the immediate past police boss,  Mr. John Abang; whose men were able to put the situation under absolute control despite undue pressure.

Nevertheless, we are bold to state here that Akwa Ibom State Chapter of CNPP recognises Rt. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke as the constitutionally elected speaker of Akwa Ibom State House Of Assembly and we call on all factions to embrace peace for the sake of progress and unity.

Signed:

Comrade Lincoln Charles
CNPP Chairman,
 AKS Chapter
