In furtherance of his developmental strides, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has flagged off the grading of rural roads in Uyo Local Government Area.

Performing the Flag-off Ceremony on behalf of the Governor at St. Philip's Primary School, Ikot Nsung Ikono, Uyo LGA, Chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Prince Enobong Uwah, described the project as an intervention programme aimed at opening up roads in rural areas with critical needs.

He said the decision to begin the project in Ikot Nsung Ikono, is aimed at opening up and linking the Community to other urban areas in the State.

"His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel has asked us, to go on a massive grading of Internal roads linking other adjoined communities across the State. We want our work to speak for us, so we don't do fanfare, it is our job as a state Government to do roads and Udom Emmanuel is committed to delivering on his core responsibilities.

"One of the reasons we're starting with Ikot Nsung Ikono is to erase the misconception that Uyo starts and ends with the town. At least, people will get to know that Uyo has rural areas. We are starting with areas with critical needs", he said.

Uwah who said that Governor Emmanuel is passionate about development, pointed out that the project would be supervised by his Agency and appealed to youths in the Area to collaborate with Staff of UCCDA, to ensure the project is completed within  stipulated time frame.

While appreciating their loyalty to the current administration in the State, Prince Uwah called on the people to remain steadfast with the PDP, assuring that more democratic dividends would greet the community, with the Udom's continued stay beyond 2019.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Elder Imoh Okon, said the project will boost the economic viability of the area and expressed optimism that with Prince Enobong Uwah as UCCDA Boss, the project will be completed within a short time.

He appealed for the construction of more roads in Ikono Clan, saying the area has suffered failed promises of road constructions in the last sixteen years.

Clan Head-elect of Ikono Clan, Eteidung Sunday Essiet, on his part, said he was happy that government has responded to the cries of the people for the road project and thanked Prince Enobong Uwah and other sons of Uyo LGA for attracting government presence to the area.

The Royal Father reiterated the resolve of his subjects to support the second term bid of Governor Udom Emmanuel, recalling that earlier promises by the Naija Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to grade the road, have yielded no fruit after several months.

Erstwhile Transition Committee Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Barr. Mfon Ben who also spoke at the event, said when completed, the road would heighten economic activities in the area and thanked the State Government for championing the intervention programme.

The event was graced by serving and retired government officials, Councillors, Supervisors, Royal Fathers, women groups, youths and school children.
