HOW SEN BASSEY ALBERT’S VOICE SENT AKPABIO INTO HIDING DURING PLENARY.

By Umani Uwemedimo F.

During Plenary at the National Assembly today, another drama had unfolded; Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio was sighted running out of the Red Chambers immediately Sen. Bassey Albert was recognized to raise a point of order under matters of urgent public importance against the unlawful siege of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. This scenario at the National Assembly today, has made all fingers to point directly at Akpabio on the unlawful invasion of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly yesterday. This automatically means that Sen. Akpabio has been the brain behind these unlawful, disgusting, nonchalant and undemocratic activities at the State House Complex of late.

Sen. Bassey Albert in his motion at the Red Chambers today, cited different activities that have transpired in the state for some days now, and this was not just done verbally, as proofs were presented to the National Assembly for further actions.

In response to Senator Bassey Albert’s complaint at the Red Chambers, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, stated that the upper legislative chamber would continue to defend democracy everywhere.

Akpabio, who was said to have hidden himself at the Press conference center, emerged after the matter had been handled by the Senators.

After the militarized invasion of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly complex yesterday by the men of Nigerian Police and unmasked-diehard militants of the APC group yesterday morning, many dramatic displays have been witnessed both in the State and at the National level. One of these dramas is ascertained to be comic: that's the 1000meters race by the self-acclaimed speaker of the defunct House of Comedy, and his four professional comedians.

These comedians are believed to have been rejected by their constituents even before the court order from the Federal High Court had reached the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke. Upon declaring the five seats vacant which is in accordance with the rule of law and the constitution, there were great celebrations by the constituents that at last, impunity and ineffective representations have been sent to where they rightfully belong.

Aftermath of this have been series of attempts to disrupt the already existing peace in the State, thereby instigating chaos and mayhem on the citizens, and also disrupting effective legislative functions in the State Assembly. This is one thing the entire world has risen to kick against: the democracy of the country must at all costs be protected and maintained even in times of great challenges like this.
