The Secretary to Akwa Ibom state Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem over the weekend poured encomiums on Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, Hon. Ekanem Brown as he was honoured with ‘Outstanding Local Government Chairman Award’ from the Dakkada Entrepreneurials Ambassadors League, DEAL.
The SSG who represented Governor Udom Emmnauel at the event held in Uyo last Sunday said in his speech that Hon. Brown is one Local Government Chairman that is dear to his heart due to his intellectual capacity and performance in office as Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council.
In his words, “still in the Dakkada spirit, Hon. Ekanem Brown is one Local Government Chairman that has indeed stood out and I thank DEAL for considering him for this award"
He went memory lane to state reasons that he esteems the Council Chairman, “All the Local Government Chairmen were invited for a retreat in Lagos, I was there, Governor was there too and they all presented papers. When Hon. Brown presented his paper, I told the Governor that this is my best and that Brown is a Chairman to watch out for amongst the Local Government Chairmen. Other Local Government Chairmen are equally good, and some better.
“Soon after we came back Hon. Brown invited me to the commissioning of a shoe factory and we toured other projects of his administration and since then he has been showing quality every time.
“Just recently, the Governor approved some funds to support Mkpat Enin shoe factory in terms of patronage. The standard of Cortina for school children produced there are no different from what we have in Lagos and they can do all forms of military boots”.
The citation read by the organizers of the award before presentation has it that “Hon. Ekanem Brown is the Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council. Before joining politics, he sat on the board of four different companies worth hundreds of millions of naira as MD/CEO. He has a story of rising from grass to greatness through hard work and he became an outstanding ICT expert in Nigeria in line with our group’s philosophy.
“Hon. Brown since assuming office as Mkpat Enin Chairman has been able to domesticate Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Industrialization agenda.
“within 100days in office Hon. Brown completed and commissioned a well equipped shoe factory that was abandoned by many administrations before him. Today that factory is employing youths of the area and is producing military boots, desert boots, Cortina, and fashion shoes.
“He is also the first Local Government Chairman in the history of Akwa Ibom state to maximize the rich vegetation of his area for commercial agriculture, thereby employing labour and training youths to create their commercials farms”.
The organizers further listed other projects and achievements of Hon. Ekanem Brown to include road grading, providing two generating plants to restore electric power supply to his council secretariat after 6years of no power supply, 6 free health programmes with over 100 free surgeries and launching a women empowerment programme that has so far empowered over 300 women of the area.
“Today, DEAL awards Hon. EKANEM BROWN as “Outstanding Local Government Chairman” for his performance in office and achievements in the private sector” the citation concludes.
Speaking to newsmen soon after the awards, Hon. Ekanem Brown said that he dedicates the award to Mkpat Enin people for electing him, adding that the award will spur him to do more good works in the remaining of his tenure.
He thanked DEAL for finding him worthy of the award.
