IBOM AIR FLEET TO INCREASE TO 10 AIRCRAFT'S BY 2023 - Akan Okon

The immediate past Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Special Duties and Aviation Development, Mr. Akan Okon has projected that, by August this year, one more aircraft will be acquired as an addition to the three which are already operating and by 2023, the fleet of Ibom Air would have increased to 10 aircrafts .


Mr. Okon dropped the hint during an interactive session with news men, when he hosted them on a Thank You Dinner at his Uyo residence.  He gave kudos to the Press for what he acknowledged as their fair reportage of the Governor Udom Emmanuel led PDP administration in the State and the just concluded general elections.

Mr Okon further stressed that, the avistion sector is a major employer of labour and as such,  the Akwa Ibom State Government decided to tap into the economic values of the industry by floating Ibom Air.

The erstwhile Commissioner maintained that, Governor Emmanuel deserves commendations for the feat of attracting so many investments to the State despite the economic downtown the nation experienced and the many lofty projects he executed in all parts of the State between 2015 and 2019.

Mr. Akan Okon listed the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel and the 21 storey Intelligence Building being constructed in Uyo (the State Capital) as projects to which Governor Emmanuel has committed enormous resources to ensure the come to fruition to boost the socio-economic lives of Akwa Ibom people.

On the ongoing implementation of the Ibom Deep Seaport project, Mr. Okon explained,  that, the state Government is awaiting the approval of President Buhari to commence actual construction of the seaport, as a preferred bidder has since emerged to invest in the project. He revealed that, the Special Committee which was set up by Governor Emmanuel in 2015 to oversee implementation of the seaport project had since submitted its report, and further action is dependent on the approval of the Federal Government.

He lauded Governor Emmanuel for appointing the Mrs Mfon Usoro led Technical Committee for Actualization of Ibom Deep Seaport, which he explained has highly experienced persons in the maritime sector as members and commended the Committee for working hard to have gotten a preferred bidder which is one of the leading companies in the maritime and cargo sector by name Bolloré And Power Channel.


Mr Okon charged the citizens of Akwa Ibom State to move beyond partisan considerations as electioneering campaigns and elections have come and gone to support and pray for the success of  Governor Udom Emmanuel.

According to him,  the governor is a leader who is willing to listen to the people and consider their contributions in the development process of the state, and therefore, those who wish to criticize his administration should do so constructively and not with political bias.

He however gave assurance  that Governor Emmanuel is a leader who is too focussed on the goal of delivering democracy dividends in the completion agenda to be distracted by negative criticisms while he serves a second term in office.
