...As Akan Okon rolls his sleeves to serve again!

According to 'Peggy Noonan, ''Sincerity and competence is a strong combination. In politics, it is everything".


 This statement aptly describes may have informed the decision of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel to ask Mr. Akan Okon to serve again.


The return of the Itu born financial expert and investment banker in Governor Emmanuel's exco which has attracted a reverberating applause across all strata of the Akwa Ibom population, speaks volume of how the Governor rewards competence in his government.


When His Excellency came on board in 2015, he appointed Mr. Okon as Commissioner for Finance, a position he served and discharged his duties diligently and was thereafter posted to the Ministry of Housing and Special Duties, and later appointed the Commissioner for Special Duties and Aviation development.


Today, the Governor has found him fit once again to serve in his exco as Commissioner with another portfolio as Honourable Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport.


His name was forwarded alongside 20 other nominees to the House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. The House did the needful, Mr. Akan Okon and his colleagues passed the integrity test before the legislature.

Akan Okon's ability to interpret and implement the Governor's blueprint in his pervious assignment as Commissioner for Special Duties and Aviation Development, has earned him another task, this time around, Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport an assignment he will sure deliver.


He dilligently stood by His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel to delivered  the vision of Ibom Air and today the airline has become a delight in the sky. And because  Governor Udom Emmanuel is poised to ensure that his completion agenda becomes a reality,  he would leave no stone unturned in bringing this to fruition. This informs his choice of a trusted goal getter, and a prudent financial manager in the person of Mr. Akan Okon to handle the Economic development and Ibom Deep Seaport project which is dear to the heart of the Governor, and will unlock vast economic possibilities for Akwa ibom people.


Born in 1965 in Itu, Mr. Okon is a financial expert has carved a niche for himself in the banking sector and recently in public service, with several decades of experience.

His dream of becoming a financial manager began in 1987, when he got admitted into the prestigious University of Lagos where he bagged his first degree in Business Administration. He later enrolled in the University of Calabar for a Master's degree in Banking and Finance.


He has attended several courses in the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates among others.
Done with his NYSC, he joined the Central Bank of Nigeria, where he served as Assistant Manager, International Remittance Office, Senior Supervisor, Investment Office (Foreign Operations Dept) and senior supervisor, Banking Office.


From CBN, he moved to First Inland Bank Plc, where he served as Head Investment Banking, area executive, South South, supervising all the branches of the bank in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers and Delta States.

Mr. Okon also has imprints in FinBank and Standard Trust Bank Limited now United Bank for Africa where he left behind a record of sterling performance.

He is a member of many professional bodies among them: Fellow, Institute of Sales Management; Fellow, Chartered Institute of Leadership of Nigeria (CILN); member, Institute of Direct Marketing and member, Chattered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants.
Before his first political appointment as Commissioner for Economic Development and thereafter, Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akan Okon worked as the Managing Director of Fantixis Investments Limited, a financial advisory firm.


Mr. Okon is a devout Christian, a loving husband and caring father.
In his magical ways of turning water into wine and getting water out of the rock, let's watch and see the magic in Ibom Deep Seaport in few years as it comes to fruition.
