The State Government has inaugurated a Committee to organize an education summit in the State .
Inaugurating the Committee in his Office in Uyo, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem said the Summit which is expected to hold before the commencement of the new academic session, will deliberate on the template for a qualitative educational system in the State.
Dr. Ekuwem stated that the summit with the theme , “Human Capacity Building for Sustainable Transformation of Persons and Society”, will work out modalities to check the falling standards and noticeable deficiencies in the educational system in the State in particular and Nigeria in general.
He decried the present educational system where students are trained and graduated for paid employment and stressed the need for a review of the school curricular that will afford our children the opportunity of being trained in tertiary institutions to become self reliant.
The State Chief scribe noted that most artisans in Nigeria today are imported from the neighboring African countries to handle tiling and screeding jobs, which ordinarily would have been done by our local artisans, if they had acquired the necessary skills.
He therefore called on Akwa Ibom youths to acquire maximum skills that will gainfully create employment for them rather depend on the Government.
While expressing confidence in the galaxy of Professionals chosen to serve in the committee, the SSG charged them to bring their wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of their responsibility.
Thee twenty three – member Committee has the Secretary to the State Government , Dr Emmanel Ekuwem as Chairman with the Commissioners for Education, Prof. Nse Essien, Information and Strategy, Sir Charles Udoh as well as Science and Technology, Dr. Iniobong Essien as members.
Other members of the committee include the Chairman , State Universal Basic Education Board , the Chairman, State Secondary Education Board, Deputy Vice –Chancellor Academic, University of Uyo and the Deputy Vice –Chancellor Academic, Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin LGA.
Also in the committee are the Rector, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, the Provost, College of Education, Afaha Nsit ,the Chief Executive Officer of Toro Inoyo Foundation, the Chairman , Akwa Ibom Professionals, Lagos , the Chairman ALGON, Akwa Ibom State and the President , Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria, USA , INC. (AKISAN), among others.
