BARR. DENNIS AKPAN CANVASSES FOR STATUS UPGRADE FOR AKWA IBOM STATE SCHOOL OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGY.

The Honorable Member Representing Etinan State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. (Barr) Aniefiok Dennis Akpan has further canvassed for the upgrade of the over 30 years Akwa Ibom State School of Health Technology, Etinan to a full-fledged college.


This debate was on the floor of the 7th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today during plenary when a bill for a law to establish Akwa Ibom State College of Health Technology sponsored by Rt. Hon. (Barr) Aniefiok Dennis and Co-Sponsored by fifteen other lawmakers passed through its second reading.

Leading the debate, the Etinan Assemblyman highlighted the many benefits of upgrading the status of the institution for the benefit of the state and its citizenry. He opined that the status and scope of the institution will change and be expanded with new courses offered, certificates will be recognized beyond the shores of the state, participation in the National youth service and attract funding from various donor agencies like TETFUND.

He further emphasized that with the massive investment by Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration in the health sector, the college, when upgraded will offer courses of study, training, research and development of techniques in all branches of health care delivery to include Biomedical Engineering, Dental Technology, Health Information Management, Radiography, Optometry among other professional health courses to complement the state government's infrastructures in the health sector.

It could be recalled that this bill having previously been passed by the 3rd, 5th and 6th assemblies was yet to be assented to. The lawmakers of the 7th assembly overwhelmingly throw their support behind the bill with emphasis that its timing is apt for assent considering the passion His Excellency the Governor has for the health and well being of Akwa Ibom People.
