...Appeals for Urgent Remedial Intervention
The member representing Abak/Etim-Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has called on Julius Barger Construction Company and other construction companies undergoing different road construction contracts in the Country to swing into actions toward restoring the ugly condition of the roads especially the Calabar-Itu Highway.
The five star lawmaker made the call on Tuesday while presiding over a meeting of the House adhoc committee on abandoned projects as the acting Chairman.
Hon. Umanah laid emphasis on the abandoned Calabar-Itu Highway by the Julius Berger Construction Company, maintaining that the road has served as a great burden on its users, stating that the only way such a burden could be relieved on the people especially in this year's Christmas would be for the road to be given a serious attention by the Construction Company.
Responding on behalf of Julius Barger construction company, the Director Administration, Alhaji Zubairu Ibrahim Bayl said so far, not up to 10% of the total sum for the awarded contract has been released to the Company. Maintaining that the reason major work is yet to kick-start in the Calabar-Itu Highway is completely lack of funds and assured the National Assembly adhoc committee on abandoned projects that work will commence immediately the company is mobilized.
