The Executive Chairman of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority, UCCDA, Otuekong Prince Enobong Uwah has expressed full support for the policy of Governor Udom Emmanuel to slash the salary of all Political Office holders by 20%   and commended his proactive response to combating Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Prince Uwah who made the submission in Uyo while reacting to inquiries from newsmen on the development in Uyo also lauded Governor Emmanuel for taking positive  steps to ensure a safety net for the State by inaugurating the Prof. Akpan Hogan Ekpo led Post COVID-19 Economic Reconstruction Committee, adding that, this was clear demonstration of the Governor's hands on deck all out approach to contain and defeat the pandemic.

The UCCDA boss noted that apart from the adequate precautionary measures put in place by the governor to prevent the spread of the pandemic, the salary slash for political appointees will free some highly needed funds to invest in the critical socio-economic and health sectors of the economy in the obvious face of dwindling resources, so that, the State Government can maintain and fund social services for the general good.

Prince Uwah argued that, the construction of a Permanent Smart Infectious Diseases Isolation Centre  at Ituk Mbang by Governor Emmanuel has confirmed his multi sectoral holistic commitment and efforts to comprehensively manage the inevitable negative economic and social impacts of the pandemic on the entire world.

While maintaining that the government's  efforts to sensitize the public about COVID-19 is equally commendable, Prince Uwah re-assured citizens and residents of the state, that, the Udom Emmanuel led administration, through the State COVID 19 Management Committee has been strengthening measures with timely response to ensure the outbreak of the disease is controlled and contained quickly.

Prince Uwah highlighted some of the proactive steps implemented by Governor Emmanuel to include, provision of palliatives to all 31 local Government Areas in the State, prompt payment of salaries through the period of lockdown so families are not stranded, training of journalists in the State on COVID 19 reportage, regular sensitization, press conferences and provision of information materials, including jingles, fliers, newspaper and electronic media infomercials, aggressive online campaigns, daily updates on the pandemic by the Management Committee, adequate security across the state, contact tracing and equipment of the isolation centres in Uyo and Ikot Ekpene among others.

The UCCDA Chairman said as a political appointee, he wholly welcomes the proposed 20% salary slash as a much needed sacrifice to enable the State Government stay on course in her determined efforts to defeat the dreaded virus.

Prince Uwah poured encomiums on Governor Emmanuel on the acquisition of a fourth aircraft for Ibom Air fleet, explaining that, this is proof of a forward looking and progressive governance which is planning beyond the pandemic.

He argued that Governor Emmanuel means well for the State and therefore sued for continued support and cooperation from all responsible citizens so that his vision for the State is not derailed
