In order to curb the rising cases of rape and in line with Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel's determination to ensure the safety and protection of the girl child from all forms of violence.
Wife of Eket Local Government Council, Mrs. Bright Frank Archibong, on Tuesday 16th June, 2020, organized a sensitization programme for Women leaders across the 11 wards in the area to educate them on how to guide and enlighten their female children on the negative effects of rape and other domestic violence.
The Sensitization Programme which was held at the Eket Council hall was attended by top women Leaders and activists including the wife to the State Commissioner for Health, Mrs. Nelly Dominic Ukpong, Wife of the Paramount ruler of Eket, Obonganwan Mandu Abia, Director of Health, Eket LGA., Mrs. Etukudoh, FIDA representative, Barr. Ime Edemeka and a representative from AGAPE Centre, Mrs. Anietie Ikpi.
In her brief speech, Mrs. Archibong, said there should not be any excuse for rape to be encouraged. She thanked Her Excellency, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel, whom she said has remained consistent in her advocacy against gender inequality and for teaching the women the right path towards building a brighter future and safety of the girl child, assuring that rape must be stopped.
Other speakers who spoke at the sensitization programme which include; Wife of the State House Member for Eket State Constituency, Mrs. David Lawrence who was represented by the Supervisor for Environment, Lady Esther Nta, Wife of Eket Senatorial District Leader, Obonganwan Ekaette Ndueso Essien, Director of Health Services, Eket LGA., Mrs Uwem Etukudoh, AGAPE Center Representative, Mrs. Anietie Ikpi and the Representative of FIDA , Barr Ime Edemeka; cautioned against female harassment, rape and domestic violence which they all vowed to rise against such act to ensure the girl child safety and Social security are guaranteed.
They further applauded the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, describing her as a true mother imbued with high moral rectitude.
Other women leaders who attended the sensitization programme are; Eket Female Stakeholders, Eket Female EXCO, Wife of PDP Chapter Chairman, Mrs. Mbong, Wife of Vice Chairman, Secretary of Council, Mbong Ibaan, Ibaan Mbong, Female Appointees, Ward women Leaders, Unit Cordinators and Group Heads.
The 1st Lady of Eket who is noted for her advocacy for sound moral upbringing and protection of the girl child also announced that Eket Women would converge at the Council Secretariat for a peaceful street protest AGAINST RAPE on Friday 19 June, 2020 by 7am.
She however invited all women stakeholders to join in the awareness campaign to speak up against rape and other domestic violence against women.
