As the campaign against rape, domestic violence and protection of the girl child gains wider momentum. The Executive Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Council, Mr. Iniobong Robson, has warned those whose passion is to rape to desist from such immoral act or be ready to face the law squarely.
Mr. Robson, who expressed displeasure over rampant cases of rape, described rape as a taboo and sin against God and man. He stressed that whoever is found raping in Esit Esit will be mercilessly dealt with.
"The message against rape is everywhere, i will not only report a rapist to the police. If findings against any suspected rapist is said to be true, I will show such fellow that the people of Esit Eket are against rape and moral impiety in all ramifications" Robson warned.
The Council boss, while speaking during a one day Sensitization seminar organized by his wife, Mrs. Maria-therese Robson, to enlighten the women on how best they could combat the menace called rape, vowed that he will ensure any rapist caught in the area is firstly castrated before taken to the police.
"I have interacted with all community leaders, village heads, women, Traditional rulers on the penalty rapist is to face. My wife and the entire women have sensitized the people against rape, security of the girl child and other domestic violence; Therefore, I will not show mercy to whoever is found committing this barbaric act called Rape". He emphasized.
Earlier in her keynote address, organizer of the Sensitization seminar, Mrs. Robson, advised the women and participants to take the campaign against rape as a serious fight for the safety of the girl child.
The Esit Eket 1st Lady, appreciated the wife of the State Governor, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, for rising to give the girl child hope for a better tomorrow.
She further assured that the women of Esit Eket are in synergy with the Governor's wife advocacy against rape and social injustice.
The Sensitization seminar held at the Udo Edukere's hall, Esit Eket LGA was focused on RAPE and other domestic violence against women.
Other speakers who also spoke in their separate remarks, commended the Council boss wife for her initiative and bold step taken to combat rape in the area.
VC Esit Eket, Mr. Samuel Itama and wife, Leader of Esit Eket legislative Council, Hon. Daniel Akpe and his dear wife, Clan Head of Eket Offiong, Nsoduok Chief Etteudo Ikot, Supervisor for women Affairs, Obonganwan Grace Ekpo, members of Esit Eket Traditional Rulers Council, female youths, Esit Eket Chapter, Beauty Queens and Security Agencies were all in attendance.
