Member representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency, Mr Onofiok Luke today declared open the 2020 zonal intervention programme for the people of his constituency at the Civic Centre Ikot Etopo in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area. The skill acquisition and empowerment for women and youth which is collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria( SMEDAN) will see selected 26 beneficiaries trained on tailoring and hairdressing for 14 days.
Declaring the event open, Mr Luke who was represented by his Legislative Aide Mr Mfreke Inwang Ekpo said that he was acting in line with the promise he made to the people to always bring back good to the Federal Constituency. He assured the people that this will not be the last as more benefits will come from his representation.
He charged the beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment that will be donated to them to better their economic being. The cautioned them to decease from selling off what will be given to them at the end of the training.
Also speaking, the chairman on the occasion Mrs Victoria Anietie Etuk wife of the Director General of the Amazing Grace Campaign Organisation, thanked Mr Luke for the gesture. She said that the Lawmaker has over time proven to be someone who cares about others.
Representative of SMEDAN, Mrs Lucy Ekpeyong said that the skill acquisition programme was the Federal Government way of empowering rural women. She said that the agency will from time to time go around to monitor the effective use of the equipment donated to the beneficiaries to ensure the purpose for it is achieved.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of the others thanked Mr Luke for the favour he has done to them. They promise to put the equipment that will be donated to them at the end of the training to judicious use.
The equipment to be donated to the beneficiaries are generators, sewing machines and hairdressing machines.
