"BE SELF-RELIANT AND ENTERPRISING" – GOVERNOR’S AIDE CHARGES A’IBOM YOUTH

Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Youth Matters, Comrade Aniefiok Iwaudofia, has charged Akwa Ibom youths to strive to “be self-reliance and enterprising” by taking advantage of the ample business opportunities in the state.

Comrade Iwaudofia, who was a Special Guest at the 11th Edition of Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey Youth Entrepreneurship Support Scheme (RHAB-YESS), an initiative that complements Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Enterprise Development Drive, gave the charge at the Conference Room of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, on Monday.

The Governor’s aide commended the sponsor of the scheme and Speaker of the 7th State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, for encouraging young entrepreneurs in the state through his pet programme, RHAB-YESS.

He further inspired beneficiaries of the 11th edition of the scheme with a tale of his adventure and achievements in agriculture and pharmaceutical businesses, adding that he has been able to employ over 48 youths.

The Senior Special Assistant on Youth Matters urged leaders and other well-to-do citizens of Akwa Ibom State to toe the indelible steps of the Speaker and create opportunities for the youth and the next generation of businessmen and women.

In his remarks, the sponsor of the scheme, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, said “the scheme is aimed at discovering, mentoring and supporting young entrepreneurs to financial greatness.”

The Speaker, who was represented by Chairman of the House Committee on Rural Development and Public Utilities, Dr Usoro Akpanusoh (Esit Eket/Ibeno), thanked Governor Emmanuel for bring the Dakkada Philosophy to Akwa Ibom and also appealed to beneficiaries of the scheme to see their prize money as seed funds that will catapult their businesses to the next level.

While urging beneficiaries to inject the prize money into their respective businesses for expansion, the Speaker tasked them to be devoted and financially disciplined, maintaining that “it is the only way your businesses can survive.”

The Manager of the Scheme, Mr. Darlington Udobong, who set the tone for the event, said being an indigene of Akwa Ibom State remains the only eligibility to the scheme.

He added that “winners are chosen through an online contest that allows the public to comment (vote) on any video of their choice. The video must capture your bio data and what you do as an entrepreneur and with that, you are good-to-go.”

Winners of the 11th Edition are Esther Cosmos Michael (N250,000), a Fashion Designer from Uyo LGA; Utibe Michael Akpan (N150,000), a Computer Hardware repairer from Nsit Ibom, and Victoria Daniel Jimmy (100,000), a Fashion Designer from Nsit Atai LGA.
