IBOM DEEPSEA PORT: EDGING CLOSER TO SHORE - ONOFIOK LUKE

The news of the Federal Government of Nigeria granting approval of the full business case, which is the final approval for the proposed Ibom Deepsea Port, is a welcome and very encouraging development to our great state, Akwa Ibom and Nigeria in general.

Let me commend Mr President and Commander-In-Chief, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, for this selfless action of putting the nation's interest over and above other considerations. I also laud the efforts of Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN,GCON, and other members of the Federal Executive Council for this feat.

This is a step closer to resolving the challenge of Apapa Wharf Road gridlock which has brought untold hardship to Nigerians and businesses in the country.

While I give special commendation to HE, Mr Udom Emmanuel, who has shown immense commitment to the materialization of this vision by doggedly employing bipartisanship approach to ensuring the granting of the license, let me also pay tribute to HE Arc. Obong Victor Attah who conceptualized the vision and HE, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, for also pursuing the vision within his own capacity during his tenure of office. The Ibom Deep Sea project will become a major national and regional economic gateway, which will provide several job opportunities and create wealth for our people.

The task ahead of all of us now is to ensure targeted special trainings and capacity development for our people to meet the demands of the vistas that beckon.

A new era has been birthed by this approval. We must all come together to support the Deacon Udom Emmanuel-led administration to succeed in delivering this all important project, being a critical component of the completion agenda.

With bipartisanship approach like this towards governance we can achieve more for our people.

God Bless Akwa Ibom State.

Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke

Member, Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency.
