...set to attend AWIA 2021

The Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel  on Entrepreneurial Development, Mrs. MefLyn Anwana is nominated to receive an award of excellence at the Maiden Edition of the African Women Industrialization Awards (AWIA) 2021.

The event which is to celebrate 60 African top female professionals in the African continent is billed for Monday March 8th, 2021 at Ikeja, Lagos State. The First Lady, Ondo State, Her Excellency Lady Betty-Anyanwu Akeredolu, will lead other accomplished women to the event which is aimed at promoting female entrepreneurship and leadership.

The prestigious award of excellence is organized under the auspices of Women Empowerment for Leadership and Longevity Cooperation(WELLCO) led by Mrs. Peace Nnabugwu.

The event which is also supported by the US Consulate, WEMA bank Plc and Mrs. Tope Ande, Chairperson of OneAfrica, committed to youth development, promises to be a gathering of distinguished women executives, female icons and young women.

Nnabugwu, an applied physicist and researcher said the programme will also hold virtually, to enable  participants to join from various parts of the world.

According to her "This inaugural edition, designed to celebrate Nigeria's 60th Independence anniversary last year will honour 60 Awardees in two categories for established females and  Start-up mums."

The occasion, is also in  commemoration of this year's International Women's Day, an annual treatise to promote gender equality and women empowerment.

It aligns with the 2021 IWD  theme  tagged: ‘Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.’

Nnabugwu said ‘the initiative was established to provide opportunities and services for young women in business and youths.’

She commended all the awardees and partners for supporting the vision, borne out of compassion to seek financial support for struggling ladies.

According to her the death of a young petty trader, who suddenly slumped and died, while selling  food in a market, inspired her to begin to explore viable concepts and strategies to aid women.

‘Today many women have become the breadwinners in several households, which disproportionately predispose them to stress, financial hardships and exposure to diseases and death.’

She said the initiative, is part of the contributions of her organization towards poverty alleviation and women liberation, as etched in the United Nations(UN) Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).

‘It is designed to celebrate, acknowledge and show recognition to African women around the world. African women have shown over the years that they can be counted as a driving force in the continent of Africa. The 2021 Edition is designed to showcase this astonishing and impactful woman.’
