GOV EMMANUEL IS INVESTING HEAVILY IN BUSINESS EDUCATION FOR START-UPS -AKPABIO

Trainees under My Entrepreneurship Goals Programme (MEGP) have been charged to take advantage of the business-support programmes of Governor Udom Emmanuel, as it is the only way to be self-reliant, grow individual businesses and to train others as a ripple effect.

The charge came Wednesday, when the Honourable Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Prince Ukpong Akpabio  and Permanent Secretary, Mr Oliver Udokpo, paid a visit to the inaugural class of the fourth batch of the programme which held at Dakkada Secretariat, Willington Bassey Way, Uyo.

Akpabio noted that "we once had an architect and lawyer as a Governor, and today we are having a business oriented Governor that is giving attention to developing SMEs and human capacity.

"The good thing about this administration's investment in human capacity development is that long after we would have left office, the people discovered and trained through this platform and other platforms, will be able to grow the business ecosystem of Akwa Ibom State and train others too. This means that the dream His Excellency has for businesses in our State will continue to grow".

He enlightened the trainees that failure is also part of business saying " when you see what made you fail the first time, you will be able to tackle it the next time you see it coming".

The Commissioner remarked that himself as a businessman and other business oriented indigenes in Akwa Ibom State paid heavily for tuition, accommodation and lecture materials in Lagos Business School or other business schools to achieve what the Akwa Ibom State Governor is offering free to the trainees.

He said MEGP is a recognised business school in the State and the State Chief Executive, who has invested a lot in making the training free,  expects commitment and focus from the trainees.

The Commissioner said that monitoring and mentorship of businesses will be part of the process to ensure that the trainees put to use what they learnt in class. He listed commitment, focus, separation of branding from personality, record keeping, separation of business funds from personal fund are areas the trainees should pay attention to in running their respective businesses.

He thanked the Senior Special Assistant the Governor on Branding and Marketing, Ime Uwah, for the support he has given to the trainees, the Ministry of Trade and Investment and the Akwa Ibom State Government.
