President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Láwan, Ph. D., CON, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the people of Akwa Ibom State and the entire family of distinguished Senator Etang Edet Umoyo over the later's unfortunate demise.
In a letter of condolence to the deceased son, Mr. Ime Umoyo, dated NASS/9TH/SP/S/F/05/421, 21st April, 2021, president of the Senate said: "Late Senator Etang Edet Umoyo was an active and committed Member of the Senate in the 3rd Republic whose incalculable contributions to the enthronement of legislative democracy would always be remembered by generations to come".
Senator Lawan, described the late patriarch and nationalist as a "selfless politician who rendered enduring service to God and Country". He bemoaned that Senator Umoyo died at a time his wealth of experience is most needed in the collective task of nation building.
He however enjoined the family and indeed the people of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District to take solace in the fact that the legacies left behind by the 3rd republic senator would continue to bear eloquent testimonies of his life of patriotism.
Late Senator Umoyo passed on to glory on February 13th, 2021 at the age of 72 years.
