UDOM INOYO FULFILS COMMITMENT TO NBA

…as capacity development programme for Akwa Ibom lawyers enters 3rd, 4th sessions 

A high-profile capacity building workshop programme for legal practitioners in Akwa Ibom State last Friday and Saturday, entered second weekend, with the duo of Special Assistant to Nigeria’s President on Infrastructure, Ime Okon and erstwhile Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), Prof. Sam Amadi charging the lawyers to position themselves for the opportunities provided by the evolving dynamics of the 21st-century market place.


While Dr. Amadi, who currently is a visiting Professor at Emerald Energy Institute, University of Port Harcourt, took the lawyers on “Energy Regulation”; Ime Okon, a former Project Manager, Power Africa (USAID), spoke on, “Bridging the Infrastructure Deficit: Can a Lawyer’s State of Play Be a Game Changer?”


Expected to run every Friday from 3PM and Saturday from 10AM till August 2021, the specialized capacity building workshop is sponsored by Inoyo Toro Foundation and came in fulfilment of a commitment made ‌by Mr.‌ ‌Udom‌ ‌Inoyo,‌ ‌former‌ ‌Vice‌ ‌Chairman,‌ ‌ExxonMobil Companies in Nigeria and Advisor, Inoyo Toro Foundation while presenting his keynote address at the 2021 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Uyo Branch Week.


Recall, the workshop was flagged off on June 18, 2021 with one of Nigeria’s top legal experts in Competition and Regulatory Law, Edo Ukpong, Esq. taking the lawyers on ‘Ethics in the Legal Profession’ and continued on June 19, with Nigeria’s youngest ever Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Wisdom Enang, Ph.D leading the lawyers through a fascinating session on, “Nigerian Decade of Gas: Akwa Ibom State and Opportunity for Lawyers”.


On Friday, July 2, 2021, Barr. Clement Isong Jnr., former Deputy Vice President, Total Oil Southern Africa and current Chief Executive Officer, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, would be speaking to the lawyers on “Building Professional Networks”. 


A seasoned corporate lawyer, aviation veteran and Founding Partner, Udom & Udom Law Firm is slated to take his turn on Saturday, July 3, 2021, as he hones the skills of Akwa Ibom lawyers in “Aviation Law”.


Notable among other subject matter experts expected as resource persons on various topics in the course of the workshop include: Uko Udom, SAN, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Akwa Ibom State; Prof. Lucky Worika, Dean of Law, Rivers State University; Justice Ifiok Ukana (Rtd.), former Justice of the Akwa Ibom State Judiciary; Dr. George Akpan, Principal Partner, Georgid Consulting Ltd, formerly Senior Counsel, ExxonMobil; Oluseye Arowolo, Partner, Tax & Legal, Deloitte & Touche Nigeria; and Paul Bassey, FIFA/CAF Match Commissioner/Senior Special Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Sports.


Others include Usoro Usoro, General Manager, Mobile Financial Services at MTN; Barr. Basil Udotai, Managing Partner, Technology Advisors, ICT Lawyers and Consultants; Barr. Ken Etim, Managing Partner, Banwo & Ighodolo Law Firm; Barr. Inam Wilson, Partner, Templars Law Firm; and Barr. Aniekan Ukpanah, Managing Partner, Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie Law Firm.


According to a press release earlier issued by the Capacity Building Workshop Planning Committee and signed by Abasumo Bassey, Esq., other topics for the various sessions of the workshop include: Arbitration‌, Project‌ ‌Finance‌‌, Establishing‌ ‌and‌ ‌Running‌ ‌a‌ ‌Legal‌ ‌Practice‌, Carving a Niche in Legal Practice through Specialization, Opportunities‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌Oil/Gas‌ ‌&‌ ‌Energy‌ ‌Space, Opportunities‌ ‌for‌ ‌Lawyers‌ ‌in‌ ‌Sports‌, Understanding FinTech and Its Opportunities, Tax Practice: Unveiling the Opportunities, the Challenges and Approach; Advocacy‌ ‌in‌ ‌Legal‌ ‌Practice‌, Analogue‌ ‌to‌ ‌Digital:‌ ‌The‌ ‌Making‌ ‌of‌ ‌a‌ ‌21‌st‌‌ ‌Century‌ ‌Lawyer, as well as An Interactive Session with Akwa Ibom State’s Attorney General‌.


The press statement further invites lawyers in Akwa Ibom State to seize the opportunity provided by the initiative and join the various two-hour sessions via zoom every Friday from 3pm and Saturday from 10 am.
