Deaconess Lucy Itrechio, has called for increased investment in education of a girl child to enable significant value creation and digital trasnformation, saying that educating a girl child is educating the whole Nation.

Mrs. Itrechio, a staunch gender equality advocate, who is the Supervisor for Women Affairs and Social Welfare in Ibeno Local government, said there is need to invest in knowing more about girls and young women’s digital realities.
She made the declaration while welcoming participants and guests to a sensitization program she organized to mark the 2021 International Girl Child day celebration on Monday, 11th October, 2021, themed "Digital Generation, our generation;. She noted that the advancement of technology has significantly affected the entire human space.
"Digitalization has had both good and bad effect on the youth in particularly the older generation. So, I thought it wise to organize this sensitization program to enlighten us on the importance of our education, health and nutrition and as well create awareness on gender inequality and gender bias in our society". Mrs. Itrechio declared.
"The theme for this year's celebration is apt and has significant bearing on the girl-child moral value, digital awareness, and education and health. Therefore, let us partner to educate every girl and protect each one of them from the evils of teenage pregnancy, nutrition, health and digital illiteracy" she added .
Mrs. Itrechio, acknowledged that the wife of the Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Martha Udom Emmanuel, through her FEYREP Project has contributed enormously in ensuring the best foundation for a girl child. She expressed gratitude to the executive chairman of Ibeno High Chief Williams Mkpah for supporting and providing an enabling environment. She also appreciated the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, Dr.(Mrs.) Eunice Thomas, Dr. (Mrs.) Dorothy Thompson, EARCOM Chairman, Vice Chairman Mrs. Ethel Ifum, 1st Lady of Ibeno, Mrs. Blessing Mkpah, PDP Eket Senatorial Women Leader, Mrs. Grace Ekpe Nkwo and Dcns (Mrs.) Uduak Utip Ekong, NAWOJ.
In a detailed PowerPoint presentation, guest speaker at the event, Dcns (Mrs.) Mary J Essien, Deputy director, College of Nursing Education.MNSC, appreciated the organiser, Deaconess Lucy Itrechio, for raising of awareness on the need to ensure a girl child on education, nutrition, forced marriage and legal and medical right of a girl.
Mrs. Essien took time to educate participants who converged at Secondary Grammar school, Upenekang and Saint Peters and Paul Comprehensive College, Inua Eyet Ikot, Ibeno LGA, stressing that every educated girl child in a contemporary society are important asset to the society, defining digital generation "As access to modern age technology such as, smartphones, tablets, computers, digital information, internet communication and educatio".
She also appreciated the Commissioner for women affairs and social welfare Dr. Ini Adiakpan for her support, urging them to be digitally inclined and warned against using Apps that can negatively influence them academically and counselled to avoid negative and bad relationships. She listed social connectivity, communication speed learning, opportunity information, storage editing E-banking, E-learning, E-health and E-commerce as importance for a girl child in a digital generation.
Also Speaking, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, submitted that the theme is module to help guide a girl child to develop and expand on her digital skills.
The Commissioner, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, was represented by Mr. Israel Esshiet.
Students were issued with sanitary pads (Molped) after sensitization to the two schools.

Grace Itohowo, Hon. Supervisor for Petroleum and Environment Udeme Ukoette, Mr. Robert Mkpat, Mrs. Lily Edikpo, Mr. Okon Bassey Etia, Principals, Vice Principals, Academic staff among others.
