A'Ibom Govt plans to resuscitate Akwa Palm

Premised on his commitment to stimulating the economy, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel is set to revamp the Akwa Palm Plantation to enable the indigenous production of palm oil and its end products.


The State Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pst. Umo Eno said this  during a Roundtable discuss with the Uyo Senatorial District Media Practitioners Forum (USDMPF).


The Commissioner who reeled out his achievements in the Lands and Water Resources Ministry in the last 10 months, commended the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for appointing him to serve in public office as a member of the State executive council since January 4, 2021.


He told the media group  that the state government is committed to reviving the foremost Palm processing industry in Nigeria, as well as constructing three cassava off- taking centers in the three senatorial districts of  the state.


Also, Pastor Eno informed the media professionals of the FADAMA Microfinance Bank which he said will commence operation soon to serve the financial needs of farmers in the State.


Speaking on his achievements within 10 months, he mentioned the payment of compensation to the host communities ( Ibiaku Ishiet, Ibiaku Obio Ndobo  )  for Dakkada  Luxury Estate , as well as reviewing the Draft Water Bill in the State.


“We have done a few things in my ministry since I came on board on January 4, 2021. We have executed the Geographic Information System (GIS), we have improved  revenue  in  our  ministry. We set up Land Acquisition Recovery Committee to recover land where people just buy land and they don’t do anything with it, they just come in, deceive the state government ‘give us land’, they give them land.


"There are industrial parks that are supposed to have been created, so people just come in take the land and they are not doing anything with it. So His Excellency approved that we should review those land and if people don’t do anything, we should revoke them. We set up that committee and we have done a lot of recoveries,” he noted.


Other achievements listed by Commissioner Eno include: Supervision of the construction of International Christian Worship Centre, to provide a befitting place of worship for the people of Akwa Ibom State; Digitalization of Land transactions in the State through the establishment of Akwa Ibom Geographic Information System (AKWAGIS); Resumption of signing of Certificate  of Occupancy to facilitate Business operations in the State; payment of compensation for site for Sterling Petrochemicals and Fertilizers Limited to  Eastern Obolo L.G.A; Facilitating the allocation of approximately 2,922.831 Hectares of land for industrial and commercial purposes; Flag off of the National Youth Volunteer Programme on Handwashing and Clean Nigeria Campaign for Covid-19 Prevention, training of Coordinators of National Youth Volunteer Programme and provision of campaign kits to 3,100 Volunteers, among others.
