Ifa Ikot Okpon Land Saga: Lands Commissioner Lauds Gov Udom, Community Leaders over Peaceful Recovery

... As Govt Takes Full Possession, Commences Clearing

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno has lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel over the diplomatic and peaceful approach and recovery of the Anua, Eniong, Use Offot and Ifa Ikot Okpon Residential Estate, Uyo.


Speaking during an inspection visit of the recovered estate to assess the clearing of site, he noted that the Governor has shown quality leadership in his approach to the matter.


He also commended the community leaders for their different roles at ensuring the amicable take over, adding that peace has fully returned to the area. 


Pastor Umo Eno maintained that in line with government's desire to ensure adequate security of the area, the recovered land will be allocated accordingly to some Federal agencies including the Nigerian Police Force, 

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board among others.


While reiterating that the recovered land is for the overriding public interest, Pastor Umo Eno said the community will be the greatest beneficiaries of the dividends of the estate especially in the area of security.


Recall that the Commissioner had at assumption of office in the first quarter of 2021, inaugurated a Land Allocation and Recovery Committee with a mandate to among others, recover lands earlier allocated but without proper and effective utilization.


Pastor Eno noted that the recovered land is a credit to the Committee, adding that government will continue to intensify efforts geared towards recovering all its properties.



He emphasized that no amount of blackmail will stop Government from recovering any of its land that has been encroached, and advised members of the public to always verify the authenticity of any land particularly in the metropolis, from the Ministry before buying in other to avoid buying Government acquired land .



The Commissioner who was in company of the Director Town and Country Planing covering duties for Permanent Secretary, TPL Aniekan Akpan, Chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) - Prince Enobong Uwah, SSAs on Project Monitoring Hon Otobong Edemidiong and Prince Esema J. Esema, and the community stakeholders urged members of the community especially the youths, to maintain the peace currently enjoyed in the area.


As at the time of visit, the perimeter fencing had been completed while site clearing was in progress.
