USORO AKPANUSOH COMMEND A/IBOM IGR BOARD, TO INSPECT GOVT. PROJECTS ACROSS THE STATE.

In ascertaining  the level of improvement  by the State Internal Generated Revenue (IGR), the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation and Financee, Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh has expressed satisfaction with the board's record in the first quarter of 2018 by Akwa Ibom State Government.


Dr. Akpanusoh made the commendation on friday in his office during an interactive session with the state commissioner for Economic Development and representatives from the Ministry of Finance at the Assembly complex, Uyo.

Usoro said the Board of Internal Revenue should be encouraged to do more in order to raise required funds for the implementation of lined-up capital projects in the state.

He appealed to Government for support to enable the State Revenue Board to be autonomous in their operations.


The lawmaker stated that the committee is worried about the issue of accessment of counterpart funding from international donor agencies by the state stressing  that government should consider the request of MDAs that are responsible for accessing such funds.


Speaking on projects executed by the Udom Emmanuel led-administration, Akpanusoh who represents Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency in the sixth Assembly informed that the committee is planning to embark on assessment tour to some project sites to help the committee ascertain level of compliance by government in implementing the budget.

Speaking further, he said the committee is not in a position to release money to ministries, but can only advise the Executive to always release funds for them to carry out their functions.


Usoro while reiterating his support to the the administration of His Excellency Deacon Udom Emmanuel, and to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership thanked  Governor Udom Emmanuel for always encouraging members of the legislature to carry out their oversight functions stating that any government that does not encourage monitoring and implementation of projects is a corrupt government.


Present at the meeting were member representing Ibiono Ibom State state constituency, Rt Hon Ime Okon, member representing Ini, Hon Emmanuel Ekpenyong, member representing Essien Udim, Rt Hon Nse Ntuen, member representing Mkpat Enin, Hon Otobong Ndem, member representing Ukanafun, Hon Otobong Jonathan.


Commissioner for Economic Development, Hon Idorenyin Udo led delegation from his Ministry while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs Emete Imuk led delegation from Ministry of Finance on behalf of the Commissioner who was unavoidably absent.
