AKPABIO BID FAREWELL TO PDP: TO OFFICIALLY JOIN THE APC ON THURSDAY 9TH AUGUST 2019


It is now confirmed that the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Sen. Godswill Akpabio is defecting from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The event, taking place this Thursday at Ikot Ekpene Stadium, is expected to shut down Akwa Ibom, as the Nigeria's Senate Minority leads thousands of his supporters to the APC.

They will be received by Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo alongside the national leader of the APC and former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu.

At the rally, Akpabio and his followers are expected to destroy their PDP membership cards and renounce the party at a grand reception to be organised by the National leadership.

As part of the activities, Sen. Akpabio, met President Muhammadu Buhari in London yesterday, four days before he crosses over to the All Progressives Congress.

Issues discussed at the meeting were not made public.

Akpabio had on Thursday in Abuja, met Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Lagos.




Akpabio was Governor of oil-rich Akwa Ibom State from 2007-2015, elected Senator in 2015 and was chosen as the minority leader for the Peoples Democratic Party senators.

APC Newspaper on its Twitter handle, last night, announced the news that Akpabio was switching allegiance : “We can confirm that, HE, Sen (Dr) Godswill Akpabio is a card carrying member of @OfficialAPCNg effective August 4, 2018. @OfficialPDPNig has lost him. Official Reception in days”.

And APC United Kingdom in another tweet, set the date for the defection: “Acting President, @ProfOsinbajo accompanied by Senator (Dr ) Ita Enang, and leaders of the APC in Akwa Ibom to formally receive Senator (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio into APC at Ikot Ekpene Stadium on Thursday 9 August, 2018. All lovers of Democracy are cordially invited”.

Also Senior special Assistant to the President, Senator Ita Enang, confirmed the unfolding political drama, on his official twitter handle.
