The greed and selfish disposition of some political gladiators were on Wednesday  exposed and denounced as hundreds of supporters of Bishop Sam Akpan chanted war songs and held their host to randsom.

The APC youths who had assembled at Abak Ishiet, on the premises that Bishop Sam Akpan was going to declare his own intention to contest as the party's gubernatorial flagbearer, were however disappointed when Akpan mounted the rostrum to announce that he was handing them over to support Nsima Ekere as the party's ordained candidate.

Akpan who is believed to have been induced financially by the NDDC boss, appealed to his supporters to transfer their support to Mr Ekere.

However the boys who may have gotten wind of the bribe incident, threw caution to the wind and started chasing both Nsima Ekere and Sam  Akpan with war cries, forcing them to scamper off in disarray.

The smooth sprinting off from the venue, by the major players meant that the battle royal became a free for all. Buses and other vehicles which were abandoned by owners for safety, became the major victims as heaven was let loose,  and the center could not hold.

Although no death was recorded, those with varying degrees of injury were immediately rushed to the new General hospital in Etinan and Immanuel General Hospital in Eket.

The violent tones that rented the air, were of people who wondered why Bishop Akpan could try to blackmail them into supporting Ekere who they claimed has failed to use his position as MD of NDDC to actualize any meaningful project in their localities.

Among those who attended the event were Otuekong Sunny Jackson Udoh, and the Commissioner in representing the state on the NDDC board, Mr. Samuel Frank.
