OSUN ELECTION: SEN. OMISORE, APC LAST HOPE

There are strong indications that All Progressives Congress could win the Osun State rerun governorship election, holding (today) Thursday in four Local Government Areas.

This is because one of the major contenders and candidate of Social Democratic Party, Senator Iyiola Omisore has agreed to mobilize his supporters to vote the APC candidate.

He announced today in Ile-Ife that his Social Democratic Party and the ruling APC will form a coalition to govern the State.

"We have accepted to support the APC for victory in the rerun election tomorrow and thereafter form a coalition government. Omisore said.

According to him, what is paramount to Omisore is the practice of true democracy, good governance and accountability in Osun State.

Sen. Omisore dumped the PDP after high level talks with the leaders of the APC in Ile-Ife.

The APC delegation, which comprised the party chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and four governors, Ajimobi, Ganduje, Amosun and Badaru, including governor-elect Kayode Fayemi and Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Sunday announced the final results of the September 22 governorship election, in which the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP led with a total votes of 254, 698.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, however polled a total of 254,345 to come second in the keenly contested exercise.

The returning officer for the governorship election, Prof. Joseph Adeola, who announced the results reeled out the total number of valid votes to be 767,955 and rejected votes to be 47,843.

Adeola added that the margin between the PDP and APC which is 353, and the total cancelled ballots totalling 3348 will not make any party a winner of the contest, in line with electoral act.

He declared the election as inconclusive.
