GOV UDOM EMMANUEL BEMOANS VANDALISM OF PUBLIC UTILITIES, ASSURES ESIT EKET OF MORE PROJECTS - NetReporters News



Vandalism of public utilities has been identified as one of the impediments of the development programmes of the Akwa Ibom state government.

Governor Udom Emmanuel made this disclosure in Uquo, the Esit Eket Local Government Headquarters while worshiping at the Lutheran Church, Nigeria District Headquarters.


The Governor said his administration would intervene swiftly in the power challenges rocking parts of Esit Eket, but warned that people need to be vigilante to avoid vandals from destroying electrical installations and other public facilities.


He cited Ika where he recently had to restore electric poles, cables and  transformers, saying it was disheartening that communities watch carelessly while such facilities are pilfered and carted away, only to sit back and lament to government.


The State Chief Executive, who thanked the People of Esit Eket for always standing by him, said his administration was considering executing more roads in the area to boost economic activities in the area.


He said as one of the catchment areas of the Ibom Deep seaport project, Esit Eket was currently enjoying some roads projects including the 55.1 kilometer super highway, the 13.13km Akpambiet Edo-edida/Edo Abe Ekpe road, the Ndon Edim-Idung Akpantuen Road with spur, and the 1.7km Uqua Isi Edoho-Edo Road.


Mr Emmanuel said deep seaport project has reached the RVP stage and people would soon be opportune to see the progress recorded in the development of the seaport.


He encouraged the indigenes of the state to show interest in the efforts at revamping the Akwa Palms project in the area, saying his insistence at ensuring that promoters from the state have controlling shares in the project, accounts for the delay in the project.


He commended the Lutheran Church for its significant roles in human capital development in the state. He said from evangelism to establishment of schools, the church has been very instrumental to developing several people in the state, and urged it to continue in this regards.


Speaking, the Rev. Daniel Eshiet speaking on the topic, "Jesus the great healer" drew his text from Mark 7:31-37, explaining that Jesus' magnificent powers were used in healing and causing breakthroughs everywhere he went.


He commended the Governor for the healings he has brought to Esit Eket, through several  infrastructure and projects, and charged him to continue in his good services to the people.


Highpoint of the ceremony was a collective prayer of support by all the priests present, in support of the success of the Governor's re-election, describing him as a Godfearing anointed leader.


Present at the service with the Governor were elder Benjamin Udobia, deputy director general of the divine mandate organization, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, member representing Esit Eket /Ibeno State constituency, Chief Nduese Essien, Senator Etang Umoyo, elder O. J. Asubop, Sen. Bassey Albert, Hon Owoidighe Ekpoattai.


Others are, Hon. Enobong Harry, state youth leader of the PDP, Barr. Akpadiaha Ebitu, state treasurer of the party, members of the State Executive Council led by SSG Emmanuel Ekuwem, Chairmen of Esit Eket and Eket, members of Esit Eket legislative council led by leader Hon. Daniel Akpe, paramount ruler of Esit Eket, party chieftains among others.
