EKET: COUNCILOR RAISES OPTIMISM ON EKET’S DEVELOPMENT BY THE UDOM’S ADMINISTRATION

The Councilor representing Ward 2 Central in Eket Legislative Council, Hon. Akaninyene Tommey, says he is convinced of the completion and initiation of more projects in Eket Local Government by the Udom’s administration.

Speaking with newsmen on the state of development of the core oil producing area by the present administration in his office yesterday, Tommey described the birth of visible infrastructure in the area, after facing marginalization by previous administration as a proof that development of the area is genuine.



He stated that Governor Emmanuel has registered an imprint in the area, which on completion will leave his name as a mantra on the lips of Eket people born and unborn. 

“His Excellency has done exceedingly well for the state and Eket senatorial district where he comes from, we appreciate what he has done and what he is yet to do”

“We believe that he will do more projects in the area in this second term.” – He said

Applauding the planned strategy of job creation by the Governor, Tommey stated that the conceived plan by the Governor to establish a steel company in Eket, will not just reduce the menace of youth’s restiveness and unemployment, but will increase the internally generated revenue of the state.

Speaking further on his achievements since the inception of his representation, Tommey stated that coming from a business clan; he has succeeded to inject his garnered knowledge and finance to change the face of representation in the ward.

“There is no better way to give back to the society than making sacrifices to ameliorate the suffering of the people and engender comfort in the midst of a highly independent people”

He said that since he identified human capacity development to beget independency, he has enrolled seven of his people in tailoring with a prepaid starter pack that will guarantee their business survival on completion of training.

Asides the skills acquisition, Tommey stated that he has renovated  classroom blocks in different Schools in his ward just to compliment the efforts of the Chairman, Hon. Frank Archibong and the Governor in creating conducive learning environments for the students.

Tommey stressed that he has come to know that for a councilor to deliver his promises to the people, he has to use goodwill to kill so many wants for himself, placing the people above every of his necessity.

On Local government autonomy, he emphasized that as the closest tier of government to the grassroots, there is a need to support LG autonomy to give a boost to the programs that will directly affect the lives of the people.

“We are closer to the rural areas than the state and federal government, so granting autonomy will help the state and federal government touch areas they are unable to”
“LG Autonomy means more money to the local government and will definitely translate to more visible life touching projects to the people in the rural area” – he added.

He appreciated the efforts of the Chairman, Hon. Frank Archibong in transmogrifying the face of leadership and his selflessness in discharging his duties to change stories of families as the LG Chairman.

Tommey further described the Hon. Frank Archibong as a servant leader who does not just feel the pulses of his people, but one who works assiduously to ensure that their challenges are mitigated.

He advised the Eket people to remain calm in support of the Governor as he is convinced that Governor Emmanuel will not leave Eket undeveloped.
