Mary Ekere

The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh has appealed to the state government to look into the provision of more affordable housing in the state especially for low and medium income earners and civil servants.

Hon. Akpanusoh who noted that housing is a basic necessity of which adequate provisions should be made for and as the state is witnessing continuous and more influx of investors into the state.

The Appropriation Committee Chairman made the appeal while reacting to the presentation by the Ministry of Housing led by Engineer Efiong Efiakedoho at the ongoing first quarter appraisal of Ministries, Departments and Agencies account held on Wednesday at the State Assembly’s Complex, Uyo.

He urged the Ministry to encourage private-public partnership to enable them meet up with this demand while also appealing that Satellite towns be created with security put in place including recreational facilities hinting that Gov. Udom Emmanuel had promised to embark on the provision of housing as one of his key projects for the state which will also become his signature project.

Akpanusoh also prayed that rather than litter houses everywhere, the ministry should undertake and concentrate on less numbers to be able to complete and put them into use while those already put-up should be effectively utilized.

Ministries which were appraised are those of Housing led by Engr Efiong Efiakedoho and that of Environment and Mineral Resources led by the Director, PRS, Mr Peter Akpan.
