AKHA APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN CALLS FOR IMPROVED IGR BY MDAs

Jerryz Edoho

The Chairman House Committee on Appropriation and Finance, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh has called on various Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state to make effort in generating more revenue internally for the 2019 fiscal year to aid adequate budgeting.

Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh made the charge at the ongoing first quarter appraisal of MDAs account and implementation at the Assembly Complex on Wednesday.

Being displeased with the level of internally generated revenue, Akpanusoh promised that as soon as the second tenure of Gov. Udom Emmanuel’s led administration is settled in office, the Committee will swing into action through their oversight function to make sure that there is an improvement in the state internally generated revenue.

He expressed hope that the second quarter will witness a boom in IGR excusing that the electioneering season in the state may have caused IGR to dwindle as almost everyone was involved in campaigning for their choice candidate to emerge whilst stating that the law governing IGR will be looked into, reviewed and made to go in tandem with what should be obtainable in the state and properly enforced to checkmate the level of revenue which is internally generated for the state. Akpanusoh said the Committee is impressed at the level of project satisfaction across the state especially in the areas of road infrastructure, development, interventions and funding of government programmes at the same time expressing optimism that the second quarter will be far better than the first.

He concluded that the Committee will continue reminding government through the MDAs of what should be done and where actions should be expedited which is the essence of the Committee’s oversight function.
