A'IBOM GOVT SYMPATHIZES WITH MBO PEOPLE OVER ABANDONED NDDC ROAD

...As Gov Emmanuel brings succour

By Ubong Ntekim.

Akwa Ibom State government on Tuesday, sympathized with the people of Unyenghe and Enwang communities in Mbo Local Government Area on the hazards the abandonment of road purportedly done by the Federal Government interventionist agency has caused them and however commended the youth for not taking laws into hands.

The State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Akparawa Inyang-Eyen disclosed this when he led the Permanent Secretary, Engr John Itiat and a team of Engineers in the Ministry to asses the deplorable condition of Enwang-Unyenghe road on the directive of the governor.

One of the inhabitants of the Community, Asukwo Esin, told the visiting team that the road is one of the roads that was awarded and abandoned by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), two years ago.

His words: “The bad condition of this road has brought untold hardship to us. We have tried our best to meet with the NDDC for the completion of the road but nothing has happened since", Esin lamented, adding that "this abandoned road project has hampered the social economic activities of the community".

Mr Asukwo Esin used the occasion to shower praises on the State governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for taking a step to end their years of anguish and pains caused by the road abandonment.

Addressing the youth, who came out in large number to welcome the team, Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, hinted that Governor Udom Emmanuel will not allow users of the deplorable road to suffer endlessly, thus, would do everything to make sure construction work commences soon

In a chat with newsmen, the Commissioner explained that the day's tour of the three local government areas of Mbo, Esit Eket and Ibeno, as instructed by the governor became necessary to have a first hand assessment of the longest coastline in the region for the  proposed Ibom Deep Sea port.

He informed State government's plan to embark on the process for the construction of the Enwang- Unyenghe road in Mbo LGA which is in a sorry state despite a purported construction by the NDDC, two years ago.

"The whole stretch of roads leading to Ibaka fishing port in Mbo will also be constructed as directed by His Excellency Governor Emmanuel",  the Works boss noted.

In another development, the team on Tuesday also visited the Qua Iboe Terminal jetty, which according to Commissioner Inyang-Eyen, will be revived as government plans to rework the State inland water ways to boost international trade are in top gear.

Meanwhile, it was heart-warming to see a large number of residents coming out to show solidarity on the activities of the Udom Emmanuel administration in their locality.
