EKET MUST BE SECURE FOR DEVELOPMENT TO STRIVE - FRANK ARCHIBONG

Mr. Frank Archinong, have reiterated his committment towards ensuring peaceful coexistence, safety of lives and properties in order to drive home development to Eket LGA, stating that women empowerment will continue to top its agenda.




Mr. Archibong stated this today while declaring open the phase Two of his women empowerment scheme at Eket Local Government Council hall where 150 women were empowered with financial assistance. This is to help them boost their enterprises, and improve their income for business independency.


The Eket council boss who doubles as the Akwa Ibom State ALGON chairman, maintained that his government is determined to collaborate with the security agencies in conjunction with the State government to ensure Eket is peaceful, secure and safer against all odds.

He attributed the incessant phone theft, rape and kidnapping in the area to insecurity. He said the Local government in collaboration with the State Government have risen to ensure these unwholesome menaces is brought to an end.



"I share in your pains over the ban placed on motorcycles. Truth is, we must colloborate as development agents to ensure crime rate is reduced in Eket. I want to assure all market women that we will stationed buses that will convey market women back to their various destination at the close of each market day". Frank assured.


The council boss used the opportunity to warn the culprits involved in criminal activities to desist henceforth, emphasizing that adequate measures for alternative transportation are being  put in place, while assuring normalcy will be returned for both indigents and residents to go about their businesses in the area.

Earlier in his speech, Mr. Archibong acknowledged the various roles and support the women gave to all PDP Candidates during the 2019 election.

"Just as we decided to vote for Govenor Udom Emmanuel, we will not stop  supporting the Govenor. Her Excellency, Martha Udom Emmanuel has done so much for the women. We will continue to empower the women because they were always with us throughout the campaigns, and we are doing this to key into the enormous roles and contributions of Her Excellency Martha Udom Emmanuel." Frank said.



The ALGON chairman thanked his wife, whom he referred to as the brain behind the phases of the empowerment scheme. He appreciated his wife describing her as "Kind hearted woman".
He advised the women  to make good use of the the little financial support given to them.


Senator Akon Eyaekyi, who was the guest of honour reiterated her commitment to effectively represent her senatorial district whom she said   gave her the mandate to represent them at the Red Chamber. She said her motivation is driven by the hope and assurances she gave to the women during the campaigns.
Senator Eyakeyi further  hinted that she is agitating for a stiffer legislative penalty to all those found guilty of crime.

"We must support the chairman to help him put the atrocity to an end" She said.
 Dr. Eyakeyi urged the women to be partners in the fight against crime adding that development can hardly strive where there is no peace.


She maintained that women and youths trained in specialized skills acquisition under her scheme  would be empowered with specialized equipment to enable them  the platform of creating wealth for themselves through a corporative scheme.

She announced her plans of getting the women empowered by end of  December in order for them to feel the impact of better deal governance.


She lauded the effort of the council boss for initiating an empowerment scheme which is akin to Her Excellency's Feyrep initiative to give women a sense of belonging.

She further appreciated the 1st lady of Eket for standing by her husband to empower the women. 



In her goodwill message, the commissioner for Agriculture and  Women Affairs, Dr. Glory Edet, stated that women empowerment  is synonymous to the nation development. The commissioner was represented at the event by Mrs. Abigail Edoho, a former transition caretaker chairman in Eket. She commended Mr. Archibong for supporting Eket market women with cash support to aide them in their petty businesses and SMEs. She noted that the gesture will help boost women in Eket LGA to practically participate in politics.

Dr. Edet uged the women to continue in supporting the administration of Udom Emmanuel while appealing to them to live in unity and in peace. 

Speaking on behalf of Urua Nka women, the President of Market Women, Mrs. Esther David Otu prayed God to bless the Council chairman and his wife for their  benevolence to the women.

 "Let me thank the chairman for accommodating the market women. The provision of toilet and water, and  evacuation of debris are rare gesture Frank Archibong has displayed as a  leader and father". She said.

Lady Emem Francis who described the ALGON chairman as the pillar of the women, assured of their constant support and loyalty to the PDP and leadership of Frank Archibong.


On her part, wife of the paramount ruler of Eket, HRM Obonganwan Mmandu E.C. D. Abia, commended Mrs. Archibong for her ability to initiate for the empowerment of 150 market women. The royal mother observed that women of Eket LGA had long been without a senator. She said the coming of Dr. Akon  Eyakeyi has reawaken the hope and confidence of the women to continually embrace and participate in politics and governance.


Also speaking, the leader of the Legislature, Engr. Kufre Ekpe, recognized the action of the chairman as a clear indication of an ideal leader whose words are his bond.

"Women empowerment is vital tool through which people from the  grassroot can feel and benefit from all tiers government. Frank Archibong is truly a talk and do Chairman" The leader submitted.


Giving a closing remarks, the Vice Chairman, Mr. Nsikan John commended the effort of the council boss and appealed to the women to assidously  utilize the support fund.

The event was attended by Senator Representing Akwa Ibom South in the National Assembly, Dr. Akon Eyakenyi, AKS ALGON Chairman,  Hon. Frank Archibong and wife, Mrs. Bright Archibong, Eket PDP chapter chairman, Obong Iwaad Emma Mbong, Deputy Chairman of Council, Mr. Nsikan John, wife of Esit Eket Local Government Area, Mrs. Maria-Therese Robson.

Others are, members of Eket Legislative Council led by their leader, Engr. Kufre I. Ekpe, Supervisors, wife of the paramount ruler of Eket, HRM. Obonganwan Mmandu Abia, Deaconess Elizabeth Essien, Akwa Obonganwan Comfort Enodien, Eket  PDP Chapter woman leader, Lady Emem Francis, Lady Charity Ikott, market women and Youths.
