AKAN OKON, ETTEH, ARC.EKPO, ASSURES AKHA ON COMPLETION OF IBOM DEEP SEA PORT, WORSHIP CENTRE, FOUR POINT BY SHERATON HOTEL, ORS


The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for  Economic Development and Ibom Deep Sea Port, Mr. Akan Okon and his counterpart at the Ministry of Land's and Water Resources, Architect Ime Ekpo,  have reassured their commitment towards ensuring timely completion of Ibom Deep Sea Port, Worship centre and other projects initiated by Governor Udom Emmanuel.



The duo gave the assurances today, Tuesday 5th November 2019, when they appeared before the House of Assembly Committee on Special Projects, Monitoring/Implementation and Aviation Development, chaired by  Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko, member representing Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency


Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Sea Port, Mr. Akan Okon, while highlighting  numerous benefits of Ibom Deep Sea Port upon completion, said Akwa Ibom State is gradually becoming a tourist haven. He said that there will be greater skills  job opportunities for Akwa Ibom people.


He maintained that Ibom Deep See Port must come with Ibom Industrial City for its economic purposes to be achieved.

"Sometime ago, when the idea for Ibom Air was announced, there was nothing that was not written or published against the coming of Ibom Air, but today, that idea has become a reality. This, I assure this committee that Ibom Deep Sea Port will recieve highest global commendations with great and positive  opportunities to the people of Akwa Ibom State upon completion" Akan Okon Said


Arc. Ime Ekpo, whose Ministry supervises the International Worship Centre, during the pre-budget defence, informed the House that  pilling work which contains 500 CFA piles (special project piles) is at about 50% completion at the Worship centre. He said that the pile gap is currently ongoing.

He explained that the entire design phases involving the project will be completed on or before March 2020.  He added that a lot of procurement process has to be done in order to achieve the 13 months completion  duration.


Chairman of the Committee, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko, who said that the essence of pre-budget defence and oversights by lawmakers is to ensure the Legislative arm of government are duly briefed and guided with facts in order to aide  them to properly enlighten the general public on how government and governance is  run vis-a-vis Governor Udom Emmanuel's completion agenda as captured in the 2020 budget proposal.


The Committee Chairman described the three commissioners who appeared before it's Committee for pre-budget defence as  tested and trusted noble  men whose characters, capacity and trust have not  been in doubt or compromised.


"You have been displaying your capacity when handling projects of this nature and, we as a committee are confident that you deliver excellently"Aniekan Uko said.


Speaking, deputy chairman of the Committee, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekpeyong, lauded Ekpo's pedegree and expertise knowledge referencing the Dakkada building and the State governors lodge as legacy landmarks  of the land's boss.
He Urged them to exhibit their wealth of experiences into ensuring  timely completion of the Worship centre project, Four Point By Sheraton Hotel and Ibom Deep Sea Port which he said are very dear to Governor Udom Emmanuel's heart.

"I know you to be a man of your words. You are very qualified to handle a  project of such magnitude, on this particular project, the entire Akwa Ibom people are anxiously awaiting it's completion before the end of tenure. Ibom Deep sea port will certainly put off  social vices and create employment opportunities for our people". Ekpeyong said.


Earlier, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko, while reacting to the submission of the Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Okpolumpn Etteh, noted that the Special Duties commissioner is a square peg in a square hole. He said the level at which work is ongoing at the Four Point By Sheraton hotel and the 2nd taxi run way at the Victor Attah's International Airport, is to further substantiate that Governor Emmanuel is not playing politics with projects.


Hon. Ifiok Udoh,(Nsit Ibom), Hon. Asuquo Nana (Ikono), who were also in attendance during the meeting commended the efforts put in by various Commissioners towards the effective actualization of Governor Udom Emmanuel's completion agenda.
