MINISTRY OF WORKS BOSS, EPHRAIM INYANG DEFENDS BUDGET

The Honourable Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang this morning appeared before the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation to defend its ministry's budget estimates for 2020.


The Works Commissioner used the opportunity to brief the committee on the progress of ongoing construction of road projects across the State.

He said that some roads has been awarded but not funded, even those funded can not be earth-worked during this raining season.
He maintained that he has ordered all contractors that are well funded to stop work until rain stops.

Inyang-Eyen disclosed that so far, a total of 1078 directed labour jobs have been awarded and ongoing, saying 106 projects were located in Uyo alone which are on going.

The Commissioner who said the Ministry needs more money because there are lots of work to done, appealed to the Committee to do justice to his Ministry's estimates to enable them complete what were on ground already.

According to him, the Ministry was able to achieve its set goals in 2019 with few impediments owing to year 2019 incessant rain.

He told the committee that in the next three months to come, some roads will be completed.

Inyangeyen however assured that the Ministry will redouble its strength to ensure many roads are completed in year 2020.
