NISafetyE DEPUTY NATIONAL CHAIRMAN CALLS FOR SPEEDY PASSAGE OF A'IBOM SAFETY COMMISSION BILL INTO LAW.

The deputy National Chairman of Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NisafetyE), Engr. Akaninyene Ekong, has stated that prompt passage of the proposed  Akwa Ibom State Safety Commission bill into law will further enhance the regulation of safety practice and as well boost the State economy.


Engr. Ekong who spoke during the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health Conference, held at Oriental Hotel, Lagos, which had as its theme; Shaping the Future of Occupational Safety and Health in Africa, said the IOSH West Africa Conference 2020 was to enabled Safety professionals to share essential  knowledge, educate and advise people on how to assess and control risks and hazards and as well Provides full understanding of ones responsibilities for safety and health for safer workplace in the future.

Speaking further, the Deputy National Chairman of NISafetyE, Engr Ekong, intimated other OHS professionals from across West Africa and UK at the conference that the proposed Akwa Ibom State Safety Commission Bill sponsored by the Member Representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, will aide in Promoting the inculcation of Safety regulations in Nigeria and beyond if passed into law.

Engr. Ekong, during the conference made a presentation and reviewed/summarized other presentations as a Rapporteur, a situation other OHS professionals from across West Africa and UK and representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) lauded his proficiency in Safety profession.


He went on to further acknowledge the positive legislative legacies of the 7th Assembly  under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey. He called on the Chairman House Committee on Works and Transport, Rt. Hon. David Lawrence, to liase with other lawmakers and relevant stakeholders for a  public hearing on the proposed Safety Commission Bill to enable stakeholders and the general public to fairly contribute.


The IOSH conference had Bev Messinger, Chief Executive Institution of Occupational Safety and Health,Deputy national of NISafetyE, Engr. Akaninyene Ekong.
