The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for  Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon, has tasked Management Staff of the ministry to develop ideas that would assist in reviving  the economy of the state after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Okon gave the charge during a  meeting with Management Staff of the Ministry after the relaxation of the lockdown by the State Government at the Conference Room of the ministry on Tuesday.

The Economic Development Boss, who reiterated his commitment to work out modalities to revive the State's economy noted that it is important for the Ministry of Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport which he said is saddled with the responsibility of advising the Government on the economic policies for the overall interest of the state, to come up with ideas that will assist in reviving the State economy after the COVID-19 pandemic.

He advised staff of the ministry to adhere  strictly to every precautionary measures put in place by the Government in order to contend the spread of the virus in the State, urging them to aide the recently inaugurated Post COVID-19 Economic Reconstruction Committee, Chaired by a  former DG of West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management, Prof. Akpan Ekpo, by initiating professional ideas that would help in reducing expenditures, while boosting on internally generated revenue of the State.

He thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel, for his relentless efforts and for providing the State with a World Class Medical facilities for the Management of the COVID-19 Pandemic. He added that the Governor has put in place proactive measures to contend the spread of Coronavirus in Akwa Ibom State.

"We are mapping out very solid measures to revive the state economy from the fangs of COVID-19 and we are hopeful that as we return to our offices, we will maintain team work spirit and with the support of Akwa Ibom people, get our economy working again for more development in our dear state" Akan Okon assured.
