A'IBOM NUJ BOSS DOLES OUT N1.8M TO MEMBERS AS WELFARE PACKAGES.





Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council, today benefited from the N1.8 million welfare package disbursed to members of the Union.




The State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Amos Etuk, who doled out the cash to members of the union said the scheme is to continually see to the welfare of members of the union as it will always remain on the front burner amongst other incentives in the union.



In his brief speech, Comrade Etuk, thanked the state working committee (SWC) and the State Executive Council (SEC) for their teamwork approach to leadership which he said has successfully driven his vision thus far.


He further reiterated his commitment to implement a better, reliable, workable and sustainable welfare plan for members of the union.
The AK NUJ boss explained that today's ceremony is the third in the disbursement series since the commencement of the implementation of the welfare scheme.



The event which took place at the AK NUJ press center, information drive, Uyo, had in attendance, Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Waste Management Agency, Prince Akpan Ikim, as special guest.



Speaking, the immediate past NUJ boss, Elder Patrick Albert, noted that success without a successor is meaningless. He  commended Amos Etuk's led leadership for ensuring that unity and solidarity among members of the union supercede individual interest. He said, from his assessment, Comrade Etuk, has performed beyond expectations.



Elder Albert, also applauded Prince Ikim for identifying with the union, while urging other Stakeholders to emulate same in order to enhance effective and accurate information dissemination for the betterment of Akwa Ibom people.



While  appreciating Governor Emmanuel for inaugurating the State Public Procurement Council and Debt Management Council, Elder Albert, appealed to the governor to consider the inclusion of a member of the union which he observed was missing. He added that the press has remained a major key player in the development of any society.


"Journalist if given their right place and due respect in the society, they will certainly ensure excellent result is guaranteed". Albert submitted.



Also speaking, Prince Ikim, who was special guest at the event, assured the union of donating part of his salary as his contribution to see to the completion of the NUJ press centre.



Reacting to the issue of rape, Ikim said there is no sane society that would support rapist to be treated kindly. He Commended  wife of the Governor, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, for championing the fight against rape and violence against women.



Prince Ikim, however reminded that there is sanitation tomorrow. He called on Akwa Ibom people to collaborate with the State government to combat rape and to  keep the State clean and green.



The packages recieved by members of the AK NUJ  was  categorized as follows:
•#200,000 (each) for family of bereaved members/members who lost their spouses
•#50, 000 (each) for those members who lost relations other than spouses.
•#25, 000 (each) for members who had social events such as weddings, traditional marriages, Child dedications, ordination etc.
