AVIATION: A’IBOM SCALE-UP COVID-19 PROTOCOLS AT VICTOR ATTAH AIRPORT

As part of its preparation for the reopening of the Victor Attah International Airport (VAIA), the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Special Duties has scaled up Covid-19 protocols at the airport in line with the approved guideline for aviation sector.

Commissioner in the Ministry, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, who gave the hint on Wednesday in Uyo shortly after an automated Disinfection Thermometer Channel and two automated Temperature Scanners were installed at the Airport, said “the move is part of the administration efforts to prevent passengers, visitors and workers at the VAIA from spreading or contracting COVID-19 as flight operations resume.”

He said the standard of facilities placed at the airport shows Governor Udom Emmanuel’s commitment and compliance to the mandatory COVID-19 protocols as approved by the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for the aviation sector.

Explaining, Rt. Hon. Etteh said “the automated Temperature Scanner has Non-Contact Temperature Measurement; Access Control Integration that allows testing for children, adults and the physically challenged as well as pets. It also supports Office Attendance and App Monitoring.”

“The automated Disinfection Thermometer Channel, beyond spraying disinfectants, is an Intelligent Control Design that uses High Precision Infrared Spectrum Sensor. It is fitted with face recognition, high storage capacity and sound light alarm,” he added.

The Commissioner further said the strict observance of health and safety protocols by the Akwa Ibom State Government is necessitated by the eagerness of passengers to travel and catch up with their respective businesses.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the VAIA who was represented by the Airport Manager, Engr. Aniema Ukpong, said safety in the aviation industry worldwide during the pandemic is a major concern hence the huge investments in reducing risks to the barest minimum.

She said the equipment will serve Arriving and Departing persengers and expressed gratitude to the state government for placing premium on the well-being of its citizens.

The Managing Director maintained that the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, remains one of the safest and most convenient to fly from in the country.

The MD was full of praises for the Special Duties helmsman Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, for consistency and dexterity in ensuring that the Victor Attah International Airport, has all it requires to function optimally as well as diligent supervision of ongoing projects at the airport.

At the time of filing this report, airport staff and persengers on essential travels were seen using the equipment.
