As the battle for who clinches the Chairmanship position in Onna Local Government Council gathers momentum, Mr. Uwem Uquang has answered the call to serve his people in the forthcoming Local Government elections in the State.
Mr. Uwem Uquang made his intention to join the Chairmanship race on Monday during a consultation tour to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chapter Executives in Onna.
Mr. Uquang pointed out that his decision to answer the call to serve his people, is borne out of his love for his people, and his desire to change the narrative of leadership in Onna Local Government Area and consolidate on the completion agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
He stated that his administration will be centered on people's oriented programmes and policies, human capacity development, empowerment of women and youths with small and medium scale startup packs, enhancing the full implementation of secondary and primary health services and most importantly working in tandem with the leader of the party who is a Son of Onna, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State to drive more development into the area.
"My administration will provide a sustainable strategy to empower, engage and support the women with a workable program in order to keep food on their table because i have lived in the community, i know what community life means, my administration is poised to also work on human capacity development to give the youths and every other people a sense of belonging". He assured.
He frowned at the high quantum of political and social reputational castigation just to score some cheap political points and warned his supporters not to engaged in any social media banters, but to channel their energy on projecting the lofty manifesto of changing the lives of Onna people .
Mr. Uquang added that his administration if given an opportunity will drive and attract government presence to Onna most especially as it has to do with the grassroot people. He however reiterated his commitment to contribute positively towards the advancement, welfare, well-being of the people.
Speaking on behalf of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chapter Executives, Barr. Ubong Adiahakpan, the Chapter Chairman stated that as courtesy demands, that the party have received in good faith the led entourage of Mr. Uwem Uquang whom he described the chairmanship aspirant as a man of proven integrity who knows his onions at any given point in time and will make the best Chairman for the people of Onna Local Government Area.
High point of the event featured presentation of an official party file to the Chairmanship hopeful, Mr. Uwem Uquang and prayers were offered for God to see the ambition through positively.
In attendance were; Obong Godwin Ben, Leader of Oniong West Ward 2 and the DG of Divine Mandate 2, Obong Mfon Unaidet, Leader Nung Ndem Ward 1, Elder Ekerette Ituen, Stakeholder Nung Ndem 1, Mr Friday Udoka, Ward Chairman Nung Ndem Ward 1, Hon Enobong Robert, Councillor Rep. Nung Ndem 1, Hon Udo Uyota, Leader Awa 4, Obong Raphael Eko, Oniong West ward 3 amongst others.
