Late Senator Etang Edet Umoyo has been described by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong, as a leader whose big heart, sharp mind, and boundless energy were gifts he gave to Akwa Ibom State.
This was contained in a condolence message signed by the Commissioner, on behalf of his family and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. He noted that the life of the late former Senator of the federal republic of Nigeria had touched many within and outside Ekid nation. He said "His big heart, sharp mind, and boundless energy were gifts he gave to Akwa Ibom State while serving in various capacities".

He maintained that the late Senator Umoyo, was a visibie and committed Ekid Community leader who contributed immensely to the development of Ekid nation and the State at large.
"For instance, until his demise, he was the chairman of Akwa Palm Reactivation in Esit Eket LGA, a project he put in all his best to ensure its reality. He has no doubt left a great void and hole in our hearts as a people and, as we all know; Akwa Ibom State has lost a multi-faceted and well-rounded man" Frank Archibong stated.
The Commissioner who regretted the demise of the elderstatesman, stressed that Akwa Ibom State has lost a truly remarkable gentleman who had always put himself at the service of his community.
He encouraged the deceased family, the entire people of Ekid and Akwa lbom State in general to be consoled in the fact that his legacies as a pillar in the history of our existence as a State will remain indelible, and prayed for his gentle soul to find perfect rest in the bosom of the Lord.
The departed patriarch died at the age of 72. The funeral ceremony which was conducted by Methodist Church Nigeria, Etebi Diocese was attended by the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, former and serving members of the red and green Chambers, State executive Council members, Senior citizens, Chairmen of Council, Chairmen of boards and commissions among others.
