DAKKADA TOWER IS A TESTAMENT TO THE DREAM AND DEMAND OF AKWA IBOM PEOPLE - SPECIAL DUTIES COMMISSIONER

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt. Hon.Okpolupm Etteh, has stated that the Commissioning of the world class 21 Storey Smart building being the first of its kind in Nigeria is a testament to the dream and demand of Akwa Ibom people.Hon. Etteh stated this on Friday September 24, 2021, in his opening remarks, while introducing the Dakkada Tower to Prof. Yemi Osibanjo SAN, GCON, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who was in Uyo to commission the building, located at the central business district.


Etteh, pointed out that the State is celebrating her 34th anniversary with "God’s faithfulness, outstanding progress, unity, prosperity, peace and industrialization in Akwa Ibom State".

Recall that in 2017, the Federal Government directed all International Oil Companies (IOCs) to site their administrative headquarters within the States of their operations

"Your Excellency, the Vice President, the demand resurfaced during your last visit to Akwa Ibom State and you immediately directed the then Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, to liaise with the International Oil Companies "on the way forward" over the need for headquarters’ relocation. Today’s event is a testament to the dream and demand of the people of Akwa Ibom State, as interpreted by the forward-thinking Governor of our state". Hon. Etteh stated.


Etteh, a onetime Gubernatorial aspirant in the State and former leader of the State Assembly, expressed sincere thanks to  Governor Udom Emmanuel, for the opportunity given to him to serve the State in his administration.


The Special Duties boss, said he is hopeful that the commissioning of Dakkada Towers will put an end to the long struggle and agitation by the peaceful people of Akwa Ibom State for all Oil Companies operating in the State to relocate their headquarters to Akwa Ibom State.


The Commissioner, reeled out features of the ultra-modern structure situated on a massive site area of 48,200 square metres (4.82 hectares),  to include its ICT compliant and intelligent structure with 24hours power supply measuring 104 metres high with 21 floors of rentable office spaces, surrounded by a podium which includes restaurants, banks and adequate convenience services with a parking space that can accommodate about 400 cars.


Earlier, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, thanked the Vice President for honouring his invitation, stating that he has disappointed pessimists who thought the project won't be actualised.


"Today we are presenting to the world the smartest and most modern building one can boast of" The Governor said.


The Governor reassured of completing all the projects his administration has started. 

He urged detractors to desist from doubting the State's budgets over the radio.


Speaking at the inauguration, Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, lauded Governor Emmanuel for developing and industrializing the State, stating that the Smart office complex will address, the issue of not having office accommodations which the big players especially the oil and gas industries often make for not wanting to relocate their offices to their operational base.


The ceremony was also attended by the wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr Martha Emmanuel, Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, Former Governor of Benue, Sen Gabriel Suswam, Wife of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Aniekan Bassey and other top government officials, party chieftains, key players in the Oil Industry among others.


The Dakkada Tower, is among numerous signature projects initiated and completed by the Udom Emmanuel led-administration, and was handled by VKS construction Firm.
