BLESSING EBONGUKO: COUNTING HER BLESSINGS AT 50

Mrs. Blessing Ebunguko

Sir/Mrs. Ebonguko

By Osondu Ahirika

On February 18, 2007, she emerged as the only survivor of a fatal J5 motor accident. She counts that as down to being blessed among women. Her love story is straight from the ZEE World kind of movie. He lived in the same compound with her. As neighbours, cupids fabled arrow got them stuck to each other.

When she met her husband he was into the Palm oil business loading it from the interior villages of Obot Akara, Ikono, and Ikot Ekpene to Bama,  Maiduguri, and other parts of Borno State before he ventured into politics

By 1990 in Ikot Ekpene, She got married to him on 21st January 1994. The marriage is blessed with 4 kids - 3 boys and 1 girl. Together, they have built a vast business empire including the leading hospitality outfit in Akwa Ibom State and beyond, Monty Suites.

The man who earned the love of this Woman of Substance and Character is the erstwhile Executive Chairman of Obot Akara Local Government Area and currently the Honourable Commissioner for Sports Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Sir Monday Ebonguko a.k.a Monty.

Blessing Monday Ebonguko is the heroine of my musings.  Born on October 8, 1971, into the family of Nnanna Offong of Ndi Okoro compound in Obikinta village, Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State. An Igbo woman, who as First Lady of Obot Akara became more Annang than the Annangs is a woman of tolerance, learning, and culture.

Come Monday, October 4, 2021, exactly four days to her 50th birthday, she will be hosting a One Day Menstrual Awareness Workshop for Girls in Public Schools in Obot Akara at the Nto Edino Council Hall. The theme is Menstrual Cycle and Reproductive Health of the Girl-child. Such thematic engagements strike a highly important contemporary note and contribution to a better society.

Last year during her birthday, Lady Ebonguko hosted a “Lunch & Learn Leadership Seminar for young leaders and the then-incoming Local Government Chairmen. Fortunately,  that's her high moral ground and unique service to humanity.

My glimpses of this Genius of Mercy are far-reaching.  She hates no one and forgives easily. As meek as she appears despite her reputation as a blessed woman, her courage is unmistakable. As a devout Christian of the Methodist Faith, the Bible is her study and ministering to the poor and unfortunate her great object. It has become her custom to gather the young together for instruction in her coaching sessions, being herself, a speaker of the John Maxwell Leadership School.

A member of Full Gospel Business Men Fellowship, Aglow International, The Ark Akwa Ibom State, and Roar Network, She is a woman of unassuming beauty, persuaded never to allow challenges hinder her mission to humanity.

Some of Blessing Ebonguko's convictions are worthy of note. The hearing and doing God's Word. Doing good and productive work. Having unconditional love for family and friends. Giving her time, treasures, and energy for Kingdom work. Ultimately,  she believes she is blessed to be a blessing to encourage and inspire others towards greatness.

Her educational pursuit teed off at Fosbery Road Primary School, Calabar in 1982. She proceeded to Holy Child Secondary School, Calabar in 1988. The University of Uyo where she read for a Degree in Linguistics and Nigerian Languages graduating in 1997 was her next station. She followed that up in the same institution bagging a Post Graduate Diploma in International Relations. By 2008 she completed a Master's Degree in International Relations and is currently a student of Baze University Abuja for another M. Sc. ( in View) in Diplomacy and Global Security.

A member of several Professional Bodies, including, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management as an Associate Member, a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Public Management of Nigeria, and Institute of Information management, Blessing Ebonguko is also a member of the League of Akwaibom Professionals and Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators of Nigeria. She is a Licensed Human Resource Professional.

A former Vice President of the Trinity Band Society and Group Leader - Hannah Group 3 Methodist Women Fellowship of the Cathedral of Unity, Abuja, she also served as Secretary - Daughters of Zion and Secretary - Home Cell Care Group - Methodist Church of Nigeria. Blessing Ebonguko is a Member - Wives of Knights, Archdiocese of Ikot Ekpene, and Abuja Archdiocese. Her public service commenced when she Joined the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Information as an Information Officer in 2000 but later moved to the Local Government Service Commission and is Currently,  Chief Administrative Officer.

Each day, she lives with vibrant enthusiasm that the world could be a better place if we all try. She has remained a consistent example of a faithful advocate and bold worker in the cause of humanity. Although she is a very private person, she isn't scarce as a useful instrument in the Church and can fight for her principles.  Her firmness of character is what I celebrate today as she clocks the golden age. What a blessed assurance that her next cycle is loaded with more showers of blessing.
