The 9th Nigeria senate today have recorded an historic memo with the emergence of the All Progressive Congress senators as president and deputy of the 9th Senate.
Facts has it that about 60% of senators-elect are first timers. and only three political parties were represented while 7 out of the currently 107 occupied seats are women.
Senator Lawan who is representing Yobe North Constituency of Yobe State, defeated Senator Ali Ndume with a landslide victory scoring 79 votes as against Ndume's 28 votes.
Senator Lawan was born in 1959, he has been a member of the national assembly for 20 years.
The new Senate President has been sworn in this afternoon.
Senator Omo -Agege is the new elected deputy senate president. He scored 68 votes to defeat Senator Ike Ekwere mmadu.
Senator -elect Ahmed Baba Kaita (Katsina North) nominated Ovie Omo -Agege (Delta Central) for deputy Senate president while senator -elect Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (Niger State) seconded the motion.
