ROADS CONSTRUCTED UNDER GOV EMMANUEL ARE QUALITY & DURABLE - EPHRAIM INYANG

... Condemns emergency measure adopted in fixing Awa-Ukam road

By Joseph ATHANASIUS

The Akwa lbom State Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim lnyangeyen, who linked the present condition of the Awa-Ukam road to emergency measures adopted in fixing the road, has stressed unequivocally that every road constructed under Governor Udom Emmanuel is of high quality and durable.

However, by way of some stories making the rounds in social media, shortly after the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim lnyangeyen, appeared before the Akwa lbom State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, to defend his Ministry's capital budget 2020, Monday this week, we are alarmed by the hateful messages and incitement to discredit the state government in its avowed commitment towards transforming the landscape of Akwa lbom state with a view to attract investment into the state.

However, according to information reaching this reporter through a reliable source from the state Assembly, one out of the AKHA Committee members on Finance and Appropriation is nursing ressenment, a suppressed feelings of envy and hatred against the state Commissioner for Works, which according to the source, his envy cannot be satisfied.

The source, who has mentioned the name of the suspected lawmaker in the Committee, also said that envy against successful public servants in the state is in the mainstream of his political career, and asked thus; "as if he does not know that such attitude, is capable of threatening democratic values, social stability and peace in the state. According to the source, "his action is capable of coarsens public discourse and weakens the social fabri of our democratic society", the source said.

The source particularly hinted that the lawmaker is the individual, who actually sponsored the hate massages against the government of Udom Emmanuel and his Commissioner in charge of Works' Ministry. He said even if there were some issues, there would have been a better way of solving problems, rather than inciting the polity to feed one's ego.

It could be recalled that on Monday, this week, when the Honourable Commissioner for Works, and his team appeared before the AKHA Committee on Finance and Appropriation to defend his Ministry's capital budget for 2020, Mr. Mark Esset, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, said these words; “we have gone out on inspection across the 31 Local Governments, but sadly, most roads constructed by the government are in deep deplorable condition”.

In another breath, he said; “you bring inexperienced construction companies to construct Nsit Atai roads. And the roads, instead of improving are getting worse. This is unacceptable; tell those construction companies to leave Nsit Atai roads.

However, Commissioner lnyangeyen, who took time to explain the prospects and  problems of fixing roads in Akwa lbom State, pledged the readiness of the Ministry of Works, under his watch to address every issue within the confine of the Ministry's mandate, and promised thus; “government will not lose money on that road. No contractor will leave this state with Akwa Ibom money.
