The leadership of Eket Senatorial District, have congratulated Obong Michael Afangide, OON JP, for attaining a successful 100 years, describing him as a leading light and great contributor to the growth of democracy in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.


Speaking during the solidarity visit, a former Federal lawmaker and one time Minister of the federal republic of Nigeria, Chief Nduese Essien, commended Chief Afangide on his meritorious services and selfless sacrifices for the sustainability of peace and unity in the State, stating that the icon has lived a worthy life with remarkable legacies.

"You have remain steadfast and your insistence and support given to the people of Eket Senatorial District to have produced the incumbent Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, is highly appreciated.

"Therefore, we came to celebrate with you on your attainment of 100 years and as the pillar of Akwa Ibom Politics", Chief Essien stated.

Chief Obot Etukafia, said he is thankful to God for sustaining Afangide to clock the age of 100 years with   enormous contributions to the developments in the polity.

He refered to the celebrant as a man of  impeccable characteristics and a leading light, stressing that every emerging leader should endeavour to emulate him.

In his remarks, the political leader of Esit Eket, elder Benjamin Udobia, said, the icon of modern Akwa Ibom has remain consistently influencial in the political history of the State.

Elder Udobia, described Afangide as a genuine bussiness man of highest integrity. He appluaded Afangide's strength, support and contributions for the actualization of Eket Senatorial District's agitation of producing a Governor from Eket Federal Constituency after Godswil Akpabio.


The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyangeyen, in his Goodwill message, recalled the promise Chief Afangide made to him and the people of Eket Senatorial District whose pivotal role and support have resulted in the emergence of Mr. Udom Emmanuel, as Governor of Akwa Ibom State till 2023.

"You have shown good example as a father. You are a leader any follower will always look up to and be glad to align with.

"Your leadership attributes is to us a mystery of God's love and power" Ephraim Inyang said.


In his response, Obong Afangide, expressed delight over the solidarity visit  by the leadership of Eket Senatorial District.

"My words are my bond. When I say "yes", there is no need doubting me. We decided alongside Benjamin Udobia, Chief Nduese Essien and other stakeholders to ensure we elect a leader who is compassionate and determined to create positive impacts with indelible footprints which is Mr. Udom Emmanuel; from inception hitherto, Udom Emmanuel has proven to me and the entire Akwa Ibom people that we did not make any mistake to have elected him as Governor of Akwa Ibom State" Afangide submitted.

He lauded the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen, whom he said has performed excellently as works boss despite distractions.

He also commended the ALGON Chairman, Mr. Frank Archibong, for standing firm in the Udom Emmanuel's Project with a sincere heart.

Anthony Etukudoh, Dr. Samuel Udonsek, Obong Hon. Mfon Nkanteen, Rt. Hon. Barr. Jerry Akpan, former Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Linus Umoh, Obong Jerry Okpo, Mr. Johnson Udobia, Mrs. Kenim Onofiok, Chief Okon Essag, Prince Ekpo Etifit, Chief Elder Ukpong,  chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among others.

Obong Michael Akpan Afangideh, is the president, Adaha Akwa Ibom  and founding father of Akwa Ibom State. 

Born on November 25, 1919 to Chief and Madam Akpan Afangideh in Nto Afangideh Family in lko Umo Essien, Essien Udim Local Government Area, this icon of modern Akwa Ibom was enlisted into the Nigerian Army in 1955.

His service in the Army was short-lived. The next place of work was the civil service where he became a sanitary inspector from 1957 - 1977 and has been a distributor of Peugeot Vehicles in the South South.
