AKPANUSOH APPEAL TO FG, EXXONMOBIL FOR SPEEDY RE-CONSTRUCTION OF IWUO-KPOM COMMUNITY

Victims of Iwuokpom fire disaster, in Ibeno LGA may soon regain from their shock as a result of loses incurred through the fire inferno which recently engulfed the area. This is upon  the lawmaker representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency's call on the Federal Government, ExxonMobil and Non-governmental organizations to jointly support the speedy reconstruction of the affected community.



Akpanusoh, in his statement during his visit to Iwuokpom community yesterday, to sympathize with the affected victims and to ascertain the level of devastation caused by the fire outbreak, encouraged the victims who are majorly homeless with properties worth hundreds of million of naira destroyed to have hope in God for a possible intervention from the FG, Donor Agencies and other good spirited members of the society for a possible remedy.


The five star Legislator emphasized on the fact that Iwoukpom community which is noted for fishing and other seafood businesses and its affected inhabitants could only be salvaged from their present predicament through collaborative efforts and supports from the Federal government, Oil Servicing Companies and non-governmental organizations.

Bewildered by the level of damage, Akpanusoh, who was accompanied by his dear wife, Mrs. Ini Akpanusoh, party Chieftains and members of Kini-Abasi Campaign Organization, applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for being a responsive leader.

"The Government of Udom Emmanuel is determined to do a whole lot to bring succour to the people of Iwuo-okpom. The visit by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem and Special Duties Commissioner, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, with cash support immediately news of the fire disaster got to the Governor clearly states government readiness and commitment towards alleviating the plight of the people" Akpanusoh stated.

Speaking further, the Lawmaker called on all well to do Nigerians, Management of ExxonMobil, Oil Servicing firms and NGOs to come help alleviate the pains and sufferings of Iwuokpom Community. He informed that he  has equally written to National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), ExxonMobil and other Oil companies operating within the affected community to see how they can collaborate and provide both short and long term relief materials to the victims.

"Looking at this shocking devastation, It is very sympathetic, the trauma and pains is beyond what is reported. I came with my wife and entire Stakeholders to sympathise with residents of Iwuokpom and the entire people of Ibeno local government area over the unwholesome fire incident". Akpanusoh said.


Dr. Akpanusoh, who is the Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Rural Development and Public Utilities, also visited the Paramount ruler of Ibeno, Awong (Dr. ) Bassey Effiong Archianga, where he was received by the Paramount ruler's  wife. The team also made a surprise stop-over at the lodge of the Executive Chairman of Ibeno LGA , Hon. Ifum Henry, to sympathize with the Council boss over the sudden demise of his daughter. The lawmaker prayed God to strengthen and make His face shine upon the Council boss over the fire disaster which almost swept the entire inhabitants of  Iwuo-okpom away.


Also speaking, the VC of Ibeno LGA , Mr. Sunday Isokobo, Youth President of Iwuo-okpom, and the Village head of Iwuo-okpom, Awong Okon Akpanowong and other notable community leaders, who received the relief items donated by the Lawmaker on behalf of victims of the fire disaster commended the Assembly man for his kind gesture, love and benevolence, while assuring of equitable distribution of the donated materials to the beneficiaries.

Iwuokpum Community is predominantly occupied by fishermen, it is popularly referred to as "Yoruba Quarters".
Properties estimated to have been lost to the fire inferno include; thousands of fishing nets, hundreds of canoe boats, cloths and houses.

Some of the items donated by Dr. Akpanusoh include; bags of rice, cartoons of noodles, cartons of Pepsi cola/Lacasera soft drinks, wrappers, packets of tissue papers, and five cartons of tablet soap, among others.
